Garmin Connect iOS 14.2 GM, blue location badge

Hi,

I'm on iOS 14.2 GM, which will be officially released in a few days, and it seems to me that the location function related to the operation of Garmin Connect Mobile is incorrectly displayed. When the application is turned on and active in the upper left corner you can see that the application is using the location - it looks correct.

After minimizing the application it enters navigation mode ... blue location badge in the upper left corner.

It doesn't always come up like this. But for it to disappear, I have to force quit the app.

  • This is the way of the apps to stay active in the backgroud

  • Same here. Didn't behave that way in 14.0 nor 14.1.

    It's new to 14.2 GM

  • This is probably some kind of bug.

I have several applications installed that use location (Hue app, etc) and only Garmin Connect shows a blue tick (Google Maps also of course shows a blue location badge if they are in navigation mode and the application is minimized).

Interestingly, when I set Garmin Connect to "always" using location, the blue badge never shows.

  • I've had it with Outdooractive even when I was not recording any hike.

This is not the same behavior as on 14.0 or 14.1. I'm pretty sure it's either an iOS bug or the underlying location APIs have changed and not all the developers upgraded the app accordingly.

  • Same for me; reported it with the Feedback App

  • That is interesting. I noticed the blue badge this morning. I’ve just updated to iOS 14.2. As you say, set Connect to “always” and the blue badge disappears. This is counter-intuitive! And if Connect really is “always on” I’ll have to keep a close watch on my iPhone battery.

Should say that, for a short time prior to iOS updating, my Vivosmart 3 regularly lost its Bluetooth connection. I wonder if that will now change.

Doesn’t seem to affect my 1030 bike computer but I only use Connect at the end of a ride in order to upload the ride.

  • Hi, but I also noticed something important after the update to 14.2 I don't know what changes were made, but keeping Garmin Connect in memory is not necessary to perform synchronization (including downloading the weather, calendar, etc). The application may be closed completely and synchronization succeeds. This is a big change.

  • Noticed the same behavior (blue badge) after 14.2. As you did, I’ve changed to always and now blue badge is gone. Weird.

  • Unfortunately, I spoke too early. The watch lost connection with the iPhone due to the distance and unfortunately it did not connect automatically after.

  • This has been reported and we are currently working on a solution to this issue.
