Incorrect Health app sleep data in iOS 14

I note that Garmin Connect no longer writes the correct sleep data to the iOS 14 Health app. Everything was working fine with iOS 13.

Garmin connect only writes “Deep” and “Light” sleep time as sleep to the Health app but reports “REM” sleep as awake time resulting in significantly lower and inaccurate sleep times in the Health app. (Everything still appears correct in Connect Mobile).

is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Same issue here on iOS 14 with Garmin Connect 4.37.1.5.

Not only sleep data is wrong but the step count is way off as well.

    edit:

looks like more people reported the same issue https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-ios/239127/rem-sleep-apple-health-awake?ReplySortBy=CreatedDate&ReplySortOrder=Ascending

Is there any way to report this bug to Garmin? Looks like it’s been an issue for multiple months now.

  • I have reported the bug to Garmin support. They seemed to be unaware of it. I was asked to send over some screenshots and a debug log. The more people that report it the sooner this will hopefully get fixed.

You can contact Garmin support trough chat, phone or email here https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?topicTag=region_garminconnect

  • I have reported it as well. Unfortunately, I have been consistently disappointed by conflicting support messages and slow action on other widely reported bugs in the past so I am not holding my breath on this one either.

Mine doesn’t even record sleep data at all :/ I manually enter in what I “think” I slept. Somehow, magically, my rem and when I was awake pop up. But the timing is incorrect. Super bummer. I work night shift so this is one of my more valuable things to track

New iOS app version released today but like all the others from Garmin there are no details in the release notes. Upgrade and pray. Fixing the bug is more important than acknowledging it. After all it is the Connect app that is writing data to Apple Health. I can speak Klingon all day long to someone and claim it is their fault they don’t understand, but I’d be wrong. I’m a software developer (20 years) and yes the service consumer needs to format data per the service providers requirement. Apple Health isn’t retrieving data from Connect service ... Connect is sending the data to Apple Health service.

No such luck with Connect 4.38.0.31. I just checked Apple Health data and only see light/deep sleep windows from Connect. I am on iOS 14.3.

I’m having exactly the same issues. No sleep data at all on iPhone 12 with iOS 14. Garmin had me do soft restart of watch and then re-pair it. But nothing works.

That is quite different than this thread which is about REM data in Connect not being transferred to Apple Health.

If you are not even getting sleep data in Connect that is a larger problem. I'd completely delete Connect, hard reset the watch and start over from scratch. You will only lose data not synced to Connect (online not iPhone APP), but sounds if nothing is syncing to iPhone now same end result.

If you are getting sleep data in Connect, but no sleep data in Apple Health, very in Apple Health's Profile, Apps, that Connect is allowed to write sleep data to it.

  • +1 for this problem. will also report to garmin support.

iOS 14.4 and Garmin Connect 4.39 (upgraded last night) has same issue = REM treated as awake.
