Just picked up a FR245

setup the watch and connected to iPhone (ios14)

in the connect app, smart notifications you can set an option for Calls and texts only. 

I have this enabled but the watch is getting all notifications; which is driving me bonkers. 

I had a chat session going and before it got disconnected the rep was telling me I needed to turn notifications off on my phone which is not going to work. 

am I misunderstanding the purpose of the “calls and text only” setting in smart notifications?

    Same thing here on my Vivomove Style. Very annoying.

    The link you provided enables notifications to the watch but doesn't seem to limit WHICH notifications to the watch.

    I have Teams, Messenger, emails, etc on my phone ... I don't want my watch buzzing 500 times a day.  I *only* wants calls and texts to my phone.

    Is this possible?  735XT and iPhone 12 Pro, all with latest updates applied.

    To control notifications from individual applications please reference Step 4  under the Apple drop down of that FAQ.  See below:

    If you only want calls and texts to display on your watch, you will need to go into the setting for the app that you are receiving notifications, but do not want to receive and turn the "Show Previews" setting to "Never" for each app you DO NOT want notifications on your watch.

    I guess my problem with this is, it doesn't only control what gets sent to the watch.  It turns off the preview on the phone too. 

    Unfortunate that such a basic feature is omitted on the iPhone, but not a Garmin issue.

    Alerts controls what is shown on the phone. 
    Show Previews controls what is shown on the watch.

    Yes, well removing the Show Preview also removes the preview on my phone.

    I guess I'm stuck getting ALL notifications on the watch.

    I use an iPhone and this worked for me to get calls and text messages only on my Garmin Forerunner 245 watch. But for all other notifications, it only stopped the alerts (tone and/or vibrate + notification preview) on my watch. It did not stop the watch from incrementing the notification count in the watch face messages icon for these other notifications, such as emails or security camera notifications.

    Basically, you open the Garmin Connect app on the iPhone, then do the following:

    1. Tap [...] in lower right corner.

    2. Tap Garmin Devices.

    3. Tap your device (for example, my watch is the Forerunner 245).

    4. Tap Sounds & Alerts.

    5. Tap Smart Notifications.

    6. Tap General Use.

    7. Select "Calls and Text Only".

    The change takes place on the watch the next time you sync.

    You can sync immediately by going back to Garmin Devices and tapping Sync Now.

    I hope that helps. It is at least a partial solution for me.

    I suspect my watch battery will last a bit longer because it will no longer be displaying ALL notification previews on the watch face anymore, except for calls and texts only.
