View steps in a timed activity? Stride calibration

Hi all,

I have a Vivosmart 3. I'm trying to enter a custom stride length. And here's how I was thinking of doing it.

My regular outdoor street running path is 3.3 miles and has 3 hills in it. I always create a timed activity for my run. But I always have to edit the distance of the activity afterwards. It always thinks the distance is closer to 4 miles.

I'm thinking if I could look up how many steps are in that activity, I could have a nice average of dozens of runs for the number of steps in that 3.3 mile distance and get a nice average stride length for that path.

But where as there's ton of data about the activity, the number of steps in that activity doesn't seem to be one. Am I missing it?

Maybe there an easier way, I don’t know, but there are ways around it:

Just before your run read the step counter and make a note. When you finish your run, read the step counter again and subtract…

You can adjust your stride length here:

My Day > More > Garmin Devices > vivosmart 3 > User Settings > Custom Stride Length

Thank you. I knew that. But I'm interested in calculating what I should enter there. In other words, what my stride length actually is. To know what number to put there.

By taking the distance covered (3.3 miles) by the number of steps in that timed activity.

But I can't see where to find the number of steps in a timed activity.

Just before your run read the step counter and make a note. When you finish your run, read the step counter again and subtract the value you noted just before your run. Now you have the number of steps you ran.

Thanks! I was just sure I'm missing something. Wouldn't you think that the number of steps would be included in the MANY MANY stats that it keeps about a timed activity?

According to the small help text, you have to manually count your steps:

I just started and saved a very little test run on the vivosmart. After you save the run, a number of stats for the activity is shown. Swipe up until you reach the last screen. Here the number of steps are shown.

you mean on the vivosmart itself and not in connect? Is that only available right after the run? Or can you look it up for past runs? (was hoping to average the # of steps for this run path).

Yes, on the vivosmart. I am not that familiar with the vivosmart as an activity tracker - only using it as a sleep tracker.If you really want accurate distance measurement, I would consider a gps enabled device.
