I clicked on the app on my phone and it asked me to sign in (even though I hadn’t signed out). So I did and all my data has gone. It was like connecting the phone for the first time. Is this recoverable?

Check that you aren't using multiple Garmin accounts. support.garmin.com/.../
I only have the one account that I signed in to
Yes, but many users accidently create a new account instead of signing in with the old one without noticing it. Just double check that you actually are using the correct account to rule that out.
Log in to the Garmin Connect Web and see if your data is still there: https://connect.garmin.com
Logout from the app and then login with the same credentials as you used for the web.
What did you try?
I would do it like this:
1. Login to Garmin Connect Web and see that all my data is there.
2. Logout of the app and then use the same login credentials as I used in the web.
If it wants you to register your device again it sounds like you are using a new account or do you mean that it wants you to add your device to the app? If it is the latter then just add the device, but make sure that you are using the correct account first.
You can see all your registered devices here: www.garmin.com/.../
I’ve logged into garmin connect and nothing is there - no data history. When all this started yesterday it asked me to sign in on register a device. I signed in but when in it didn’t seem to recognise I already had a device registered and everything was gone. I definitely only have 1 garmin login that I have used for some years
What solved it? Anything that can be useful to others?
