Fenix 6 connected, sync fail, no data recording

I have a fairly new Fenix 6 and have been using it quite regularly (don’t wear at work) but I noticed that about 2.5 weeks ago, something happened...maybe the latest update.

I am using an iPhone SE 2020.

The watch records data, but does not completely sync with the app. Attached are two photos of my July and August calendars. You can see that July is full of data, but August stopped recording after the first week. On the app, no previous data exists for anything; steps, HR, sleep... nothing. Also, in the app, sleep and body battery are not shown, most likely because it does not seem to record that data. That activity will be shown when it is recorded. Sleep and Body Battery are indeed added to the card.

It only saves the activity like “hiking” or “cycling” with map and data if I save it manually.

I have removed and re-paired the watch to the phone about 5 different times and it is always the same. I rebooted both the watch and phone 30 minutes ago, no change.

  • What does it look like in Garmin Connect Web? Did you try syncing using USB cable and Garmin Express?

  • Also, forgot to mention I keep getting a “Sync Fail” message with red exclamation:

Before removing and re-pairing the watch to the phone, I would get “Sync Failed, error code 0”. After re-pair, it’s just “Sync Failed” without error code.

  • I have not used it on my desktop, only the phone.

  • I have not used it on my desktop, only the phone.

I would at least try it to see if this is an iOS issue, device issue, or something else. Garmin Express will likely at least get you synced up and possibly resolve some of these problems.

Regarding that error message, this has been reported by several forum members and appears to be related to storage issues on your device. See this thread with answer from 9149378 : Garmin connect app has no more space, what do I do to get more space?

And possible fix: Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space on a Garmin Fitness DeviceI would make sure you sync with Garmin Express before you start deleting things from your watch.

If still no joy, suggest contacting Garmin Support directly starting at the Garmin Support Center

  • Update:

I plugged into Garmin Express and it was the same - no data saved.

I started playing around with the watch and deleted all saved activities (8 total) and nothing changed.

I then reset the watch to all defaults, removed it from Garmin Connect and from the phone’s Bluetooth memory, and re-paired. This seemed to have helped and I got some more information to save in Connect. I then removed any saved Watch Face apps I had installed (4 total). Removing the watch faces brought everything back to normal; everything saved normally. I have not added any new watch face apps at this point.

The watch and Garmin Connect worked and synced flawlessly...for about 40 hours. This morning, Garmin Connect seems to have forgotten my watch’s Bluetooth pairing, even though the phone was still paired with the watch. See photo:

I re-paired the watch about an hour ago, and we’ll see how it goes.
I have a feeling it is a Garmin Connect issue at this point as the watch is basically clean of any outside uploads. Sync’ing the watch to the Connect app is good, no more Sync Failures.

  • I have a similar problem and I’m curious if  you get a solution ? Can you share it ? Thanks

  • I wound up setting the watch back to default and started over again. This time I did NOT upload the one or two third-party watch-faces that I had before and just customized one of the in-watch faces to my liking.
I haven’t had any sync problems since then. I also noticed that battery life seems to be improved without the 3rd party watch faces...it could have been those watch faces screwing things up...
