Connect 4.34 and Background Battery drain

It appears that an old bug has returned with version 4.34 of Garmin Connect for iOS that was released two days ago. 

Since the update has been released the app is active in the background 100% of the time and drains the phone battery. The only solution appears to be to force close the app but then some smart watch features stop working. 

Is anybody else experiencing this or found a solution while we wait for Garmin?
