Connect iPhone Bluetooth never stays connected

For the past couple months on an almost daily basis I have to force reconnect my iPhone to the Fenix 5 to get the Connect app connected again.

I'm on the current iOS, current Connect version and current watch firmware.

I've tried to forget the watch from the iPhone BT settings and reconnect it, but that never resolves the issues.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I have the same problem...

  • Same issue with my fully patched VA4 and Iphone 8 plus. My less used garmin instinct seems to not suffer from the same issue though I only use it as a backup when the VA4 is charging usually.

Same problem since at least 3-4 months ago...

Just to clarify, you do have to reconnect using the app, not the iPhone Bluetooth settings.

From Garmin Connect Mobile app on your iPhone

    • Tap "More" >> Garmin Devices >> Select your connected device
    • Tap 3-dot icon on the upper right >> Remove Device >> Remove
    • Close the Garmin Connect Mobile app

Go back to the main menu on your iPhone

    • Open Settings >> Bluetooth
    • Under "MY DEVICES" tap the "i" icon to the right of your Garmin device
    • Tap "Forget This Device"
    • Restart your iPhone

Open the Garmin Connect Mobile app

    • Tap the "+" icon in the upper right
    • Select your watch from the list of Garmin devices
    • Put your Garmin watch in Bluetooth pairing mode (This varies based on device. For the fēnix 5X hold LIGHT and select Bluetooth status to manually enter pairing mode)
    • Tap Start on the app and the iPhone
    • When prompted with "Bluetooth Pairing Request" enter the PIN (passkey) displayed on your watch
    • When iPhone displays "Pairing Complete!" tap "Done"

Done these same steps, but when away from iPhone, it never reconnects again automatically. I need to disable/enable Bluetooth in the iPhone and, of course, ALWAYS keep Garmin Connect open in background.

  • Yeah funny thing is even when my phone is on me (I still carry it on runs etc b/c music) AND always having the Connect app open (background) it still disconnects. Frustrating to say the least.

  • This works for the moment, but never sticks for me.

    I have the same issue

have tried multiple times to forget the watch and repair it through the Garmin app

My Fenix 5 will not stay connected to my iPhone 12 pro and will not show notifications. You have to go into the connect app, click a button on the watch (eg the light button) and only then after a few seconds will it find the watch and sync.

I have the “background app refresh” on, all the setting are the same but it doesn’t stay connected

  • The lastest firmware fixes to the vivoactive4 fixed Bluetooth dropout from iPhone garmin connect and my instinct never suffered the issue so suspect this is a per device bug
