Iphone text sound alerts intermittently not working when connected to Fenix 5x.

Hi all,

Think I have tracked my issue down to where it only happens when my Fenix 5X is connected to my iphone.  i.e. all text alerts work correctly if I am away from my watch or it is not connected.

Intermittently, my iphone 7 (ios 13.5.1) will not make the normal text tone/ sound when I receive a text.  I will receive the notification on my watch and my phone will receive the text, but the phone won't make the sound or vibrate.

This does not happen every time and doesn't appear to be related to one specific sender or contact.  I've been sitting at my desk with my phone right next to me and will receive a text but the phone will not make a sound/ alert tone.  Then when I ask that sender to try again, the sound/ alert tone will work.

Anyone have any ideas?

I don’t have the answer but I have the same problem. I thought it was my phone, got a new phone & the problem still exists. Garmin????

For what it's worth, I also purchased a new iPhone - 11 Pro Max - along with having multiple IOS updates since I posted this.  The issue continues.

Some research says "this is the way it's supposed to be"- meaning.  No sound on iPhone when connected to a bluetooth device- watch, headset etc- since you would want that device to take over the task of alerting you to notifications.

If that was the case, it would silence the iPhone's text sound all the time, which it doesn't.

For those looking, this does not appear to be a Garmin issue but affects me most when I'm wearing my 5X.

I now have to turn bluetooth off unless I happen to be *wearing" my 5X.  If, when I'm home, and my 5X is sitting on my dresser and happens to be connected to my iPhone, I will, many times, not realize I received a text when I'm in other areas of the house.

Thanks Mike. I too bought the 11 Pro Max & it definitely happens intermittently. I have a Fenix 5S. This problem did not occur approx 6mths ago, I feel like something has occurred along the way to cause the issue. Something isn’t compatible between Garmin/Apple it seems.

Would be nice if Garmin would comment..
