How does the pedal cadence work on the Garmin 235 id I don’t have a garmin sensor?

I have been comparing my garmin 235 and my wahoo bike computer information. The one thing that is eerily accurate is the cadence for both of them are identical. How does the watch record cadence? Is it picking up my wahoo cadence sensor?
