Cycling data not incorporated into my Training Effect or VO2 Max calculations

My imported cycling data is not getting factored into my training effect and VO2 max calculations...it appears as though my running data is the only input being used for these calculations. Why is that? Can this be corrected?

  • If I recall correctly, cycling data is included in those stats only if you use a power meter. I could be wrong about that - but my experience is the same. Cycling data, just the basic data, isn't used for VO2Max and Training Effect. I poked around in the user manual for my device (645M) and couldn't find a definitive answer....

Follow-up based on call with Garmin - Garmin doesn’t  use 3rd party app data as input for the training effect and VO2 Max calculations. I need to get a power meter  and speed sensor to collect  data like FTP% , Powerzone, etc...on my watch and in order to use it for training effect; otherwise the watch just captures HR data only...it’s just really inefficient to have a 3rd party app be able to give Garmin all the detailed data yet the Garmin App doesn’t/can’t use it.
I hope Garmin comes to realize sooner than later that the customer would like this 3rd party data calculated into training effect and VO2 Max to get a complete picture of their health and fitness without having to spend more money on additional components to get the data. Let’s make a watch that truly delivers for the owner.

Based on further research, looks like the training effect data is only the aerobic data being produced from the workout that my HR monitor captures. I’ll live with having 2 different entries (watch HR data and duration, and 3rd party app with ALL the pertinent cycling data, HR, and duration) for the same workout in my Garmin app.

Same opinion here. Just bought a expensive Fenix. Tried to synchronize cycling data from Training peaks workouts but no effort is tracked in the training stress. It is just a .fit file what needs to be evaluated in the reports. Would be good to have this option included in the near future.
