Pulse oximeter version mismatch. Update software.

My Garmin 245 Music is unable to perform the SPO2 measurement. When I access to the SPO2 widget, the watch screen shows the following error message: Pulse oximeter version mismatch. Update software.“

Does anybody knows how to solve this issue?

  • I just had this same error message on my brand new Forerunner 245 Music. After recording my first activity perfectly, on the second activity it stopped recording heart rate and steps, only the GPS was still working. The green LED lights on the back of the watch were permanently off at this point. When I scrolled through the different screens, I found the "pulse oximeter version mismatch" error, which led me to this post.

In the end, the following steps worked for me:

    • Hard power off by holding the top-left (backlight) button down for about 15 seconds. FYI - no data/settings should be lost.
    • Wait 30 seconds then power on using the same top-left button.
    • Install and start the Garmin Express software, connect the watch to your computer, add the device and sync.
    • It's likely that no updates will be available at this point (mine was already up-to-date). Don't worry as these steps should still work.
    • Disconnect from the computer and sync again using the Bluetooth connection to the Garmin Connect app on your phone/tablet.
    • Repeat the power off and restart (steps 1 and 2).
    • The green lights on the back should now start flashing again and all should be well!

    Good luck!
