Spotify app drains battery and won't stop playing even whit BT headsets not connected.

Fenix 6x Sapphire

So here is what's wrong...

Problem one: Anytime I tried to update my library from the watch app for music that was already downloaded it would spin and make it seem like something was working. Then it would stop and nothing happened. So I would use the back button and try exiting the app, it would give me a blank screen and lock up. I had to long press back button to return to clock. This caused an issue where I read on other posts that it never shut down the wifi and would drain my battery at an extremely high rate. 10% in less than 15min.

Problem two: after downloading a playlist the music would start playing, but I never started it or connected my BT headphone. It won't let me pause or stop it. Only way to stop is to uninstall Spotify app and start over.

One of the main draws for buying this watch was to have the music during my activities. Now I can't even use it.

Between Spotify and Garmin, please please PLEASE fix this issue. I have the most recent update of both Spotify and watch software and it's not going away.

  • I have exactly the same problem. Spotify music “counter” is just going even if I didn’t pair my headphones. I never even started music play. It just counts seconds hehe

  • I confirm I have the same issue, I decided to uninstall the app until it's fixed

  • Same issue here. Fenix 5 plus. Only fix right now is turning off the device after using spotify - pretty useless right now. Hope for a firmware update!

  • So I noticed excessive battery drain and couldn't figure it out. I rebooted the watch after charging to 95% and I was losing line 5% per day with no activities so it looks like the reboot worked. Then I ran yesterday for an hour using Spotify. That would normally use like 10% but I looked today and I've lost around 30% more battery. I have to do more controlled tests, but can anyone confirm that even though I stopped music from playing and I'm not connected to BT headphones that somehow the Spotify app is still draining the battery and that maybe if I reboot my watch again I'll clear whatever background process is running and draining excessively? Thanks, Joe

  • I am having this exact issue. Whenever I play music with Spotify on my Fenix 5 plus, even after I am done, paused the music, and taken off the headphones (which presumably disconnects them), the battery will be drained very quickly (lost 50% of charge in a single day). However, if immediately after I stop playing music I reboot the watch by turning it off and on, battery drain seems to be normal.  I can understand draining the battery during the activity and playing music, but drain should go back to normal once that is concluded, and it doesn't seem to be the case here.

  • Thanks for replying. Good to know that others are seeing the same issue. I chatted last week with Garmin tech support and they said to sync to Garmin connect again. I tried it, but it didn't help. Don't know who's issue this is, is it a Garmin issue or a Spotify issue. I'll try reaching out to Garmin tech again and will reply back here with more updates.

  • I see that in Garmin Connect IQ there is a new version of the Spotify app 1.4.0.  Maybe this will solve the problem. Garmin tech support asked me to try and uninstall and reinstall Spotify as well. I will test it and let you know.

    Hello,

I have the same issue as well, did the uninstall and reinstall solve your problem ?

  • Same issue here. I did the uninstall and reinstall of the Spotify app (v1.4.0) and the problem persist.

Any other ideas? Has anyone been able to fix it without a hard reset?

  • Same Issues.  The removal of the app did not fix.
