Two devices on one Garmin Connect account – What is the correct workflow?

Hi,

I tried on the Android forum without luck, but the problem is the same regardless of the operating system.

I'm the owner of a Vivosport that will remain the preferred and more used device, and I want to buy a Forerunner 245 for runs and eventually weekends.

Question: how to properly handle two devices.

Version 1 (the "so easy" one): choose a preferred device in Connect but then switch from one device to another and they will seamlessly send the proper data to Connect

Version 2 (the "mind the step" one): choose a preferred device but then (a) switch off if you can the device you are not using or (b) actually mark as preferred device the one that you are using every time you are using it

Version 3 (the "forget it" one): sync the two devices to two different accounts, otherwise it's a mess

I've seen all these three versions around in different pages or forums during the past three years, so that's why I'm asking again.

Any good or stable experiences with two devices?

Thanks in advance

  • I have been using two devices for more than a year now:

Fenix 5 Plus for all my activities and as activity tracker during the day, when I am out and about.

Vivosmart 3 for sleeping and when I am at home in couch-mode.

Both devices are connected to the same account and TrueUp sync data between them. You can find more information on TrueUp here:

Vivosmart 3 is set as my preferred activity tracker, since that is required for advanced sleep tracking to work. Do not ask me why.

When I want to switch devices I simply put the new device on, and take the other off. If GCM is at hand when I switch, I sync the devices.

I have had some minor issues with skin irritations, so I always use the Fenix on my left wrist and Vivosmart on my right. In that way both wrists get a bit of rest.

The above setup has been working fine for me. There is also Physio TrueUp, if your devices support it:

Thanks! Very detailed and exhaustive. Much appreciated, I will definitively try with two devices.
