Find my Edge notifications are a nuisance

Since 7.85 and again with 7.87 on my Edge 1030  each time my phone connect or disconnect to my Edge device I get an iOS notification it did that. This notification is related to the Find my Edge feature that has been added. This is most annoying and not useful. As I move around the house if my Edge is charging these notifications keeps coming although I am not even using it. There must be a way to turn this off. If one day I want to use Find my Edge I will reach for it in the app, I don't need those notifications to use the feature. Please remove the notifications or add a switch in the GCM app so we can turn them off.

  • I would love to be able to turn it off as well. I've had significant battery drain since I installed the update that added this, and I can't even turn it off to see if it's the culprit.

I know my Edge was hard powered off and unplugged when I left the house this morning. Yet I still got a notification on my phone saying I lost connection - which should have happened when I powered it off.

How about turning Find My Edge on, on the Edge side when we start the timer for an activity?

  • On my 645, there's a way to disable that EXACT item you guys are talking about. Can't say that it would/would not work on the Edge, but here's how it works on my 645:

Turning On and Off Smartphone Connection Alerts You can set the Forerunner device to alert you when your paired smartphone connects and disconnects using Bluetooth wireless technology. NOTE: Smartphone connection alerts are turned off by default. 1 Hold UP. 2 Select Settings > Phone > Alerts.

  • Agree, extremely annoying! I have a 645, and it does not happen with 645. But my brand new 1030 does cause this nuisance. Ended up turning all GCM notifications off.

  • I hate this new feature! Sure, I would want it in the extremely unlikely event that my device popped off on a ride and i didn't see where it landed - but for the 99.9999% rest of the use cases - this is quite unnecessary and annoying. Every day I turn on my edge, get a notification asking if i want help finding the edge, do my ride, shut off edge, get a notification about if i want to find my edge. At least give us a way to disable this "feature."

The notifications that I am speaking of are: "Edge Connection Established" and "Edge Connection Lost"

    Hate it!

  • Absolutely agree, this new "feature" is is a nuisance. I just setup my new Edge 1030 Plus and discovered this nonsense. It's especially annoying since it cannot get switched off/controlled by the user. Tried pretty much everything. My Fenix 5 Plus which also uses GCM does not cause this peskiness.

Garmin please listen to your community and build a user controllable switch into GCM for the new devices which have this "feature" programmed in. It shouldn't be too difficult I guess - Thanks.

  • This was really annoying me.
In the iOS app, under devices Forerunner 945 -> Sounds & Alerts -> Smart Notifications -> General Use -> Show
choose calls and texts only (rather than All). Whilst this is probably disabling other alerts on the forerunner from the app, it does stop the edge connected/disconnected message
