The Garmin Connect app interfaces with our Garmin Connect website. All features in Garmin Connect use data in some form. You can change settings or view workout history on the watch. As for transferring it to the phone, this would involve uploading the data to the Garmin Connect website and data usage.
Hey Matthew - thanks for your reply here. In my case I have a vivosport, which requires alarms to be set via Connect. This is already a bit annoying, although I understand the small watch interface may be tough for some people to use to set an alarm time. However the fact that communication of alarm settings between the watch and connect mobile requires an external internet connection is bizarre and unfortunate, and renders the product quite unusable when I'm camping and hiking outside of cell service.
Surely Garmin knows that their (performance) products are frequently used outside of cell phone reception?
