Live Track

An update just came out of the App store for Garmin Connect IOS.  It was supposed to fix all of the issues with Live Track, which are numerous.  Well, this update fixed nothing.

  • It did for me, I can now start live track again. Only tested with manual start, but that's what I use so will not jinx it by testing anything else :-)

    Edit: Forerunner 935

Updated and for the commute home I manually started a LiveTrack session, and for the first time ever, it sent out a Strava Beacon SMS. However, I still got the exact same "Network Connection Error" message across the top of the session, and neither the Strava Beacon link, nor the LiveTrack link worked.

    Still broken.

This morning, I tried turning off WiFi, but every time I tried to even open the LiveTrack page on the GCM app, it would hang for a second and then crash out completely back to the 'desktop'. Tried several times, same result.

Got to work and did my usual routine of syncing, refreshing and power cycling until the activity posted to Health app, and tried again to open LiveTrack with WiFi off and it worked.

I also can't seem to refresh the Garmin device twice in a row. The second time always causes the white syncing ring to stop at the first segment, and the app to pretty much not load any menus or be able to pull down refresh any more.

This has happened since I bought it.

Garmin software is a slung together mess. They need a new QA team or better software engineers.

  • New behavior with latest app: after a while (about 5mins), my Edge reports "LiveTrack failed". Of course no LiveTrack was started.

This is after: LiveTrack not starting. LiveTrack starting, but no mails. LiveTrack not starting.

What an embarrassment this is. I BOUGHT MY EDGE BECAUSE OF THIS SAFETY FEATURE - FIX IT, GARMIN.

For the US guys here in this forum: I wish you would sue them for not delivering promised SAFETY features. What would one do if you had an airbag in your car which only works from time to time? A REAL SHAME THAT IS FOR ALL SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS.

  • Great article from DC Rainmaker on the software quality issues of Garmin:

LiveTrack is one of the mentioned problems.

260+ comments, too. I wish I'd seen this article before buying. I hope lots of people get to see it.

  • Still not working. Nothing happened. Seems to be no problem for Garmin. Ok, it is just safety of their customers so never mind.
