Auto-syncing introduced in recent update? Can it be disabled? (FR935)

Hello,
Historically, in order to sync an activity from my Forerunner 935 I would have to open the iOS Connect app. My watch would sync, and it would pull down my activities.
But recently (in the last 2 weeks) my activities have been syncing automatically without opening the app.

Is this a change that came with a recent update to the app? Can it be disabled? I understand this is something most people probably want but I actually like manually syncing so my activities are pushing out to my carious services when I choose.
  • It's always happened (or at least meant to happen AFAIK) as long as GCM is open or running in the background. To avoid the auto upload you had to 'properly' close GCM. Has to be said, that my wife's 935 always seemed to need a bit of a 'prod' to get it to upload, whereas my 935 or 5+ just went. We're both on iPhone Xs with same software - go figure! I'll have to pay closer attention after tonight's activity and see how her's goes.

I'm assuming you mean swiping up to "close" the app. I'm obsessive about closing apps, it's always closed, nothing has changed with my workflow. That being said, whether open or closed, Connect still runs in the background. Yes, I could go into the iOS Settings for Connect and remove it's permission to run in the background, but then I would lose notifications going to the watch and whatever else.
  • As you already said, try stopping the app from running in the background. You should still get phone notifications (texts, email, calendar etc).
