GCM constantly connects to 735XT, even when app is closed

iPhone 6-Plus, iOS 12.1.4
Garmin Connect version 4.16.0.17
735XT, software version 9.40

This just started happening in the last week.
With the Garmin Connect app closed on my phone, whenever I walk in & out of range, my 735XT beeps and buzzes that is connected or disconnected. I have re-opened and closed GCM, restarted my iPhone 6-Plus, repeatedly. Still happens

This tends to drain my watch battery faster than it should. And, the buzzing/beeping is

Are you sure the app is properly closed and not running in the background?
You can turn off connection alerts in your settings.

The app is closed. I’ve even restarted my phone, and the app connects to my watch immediately, without ever Being opened.

Not only is the constant connection alerts annoying(yes, I can turn them off), but it drains watch battery faster than needed

its odd because this just started up again, after having stopped for a few months
