Calories of walking not taken into active calories

Dear all,

I have something strange with my Vivosmart 4 in relation tot the 'active calories' reported in Garmin Connect. If I start a walking activity, calories are burned. After the walking activity you can see this in the report of the activity.

However, these calories are not taken into account when calculating the actively burned calories in the daily calory overview. Because sometimes -despite a walking activity with eg 150 burned calories- the amount of reported calories in the overview is lower.

Is this a bug?

Best,
Martijn
  • The calories of your walking activity includes both the resting calories, which you would have spent anyway in rest, and the active calories. Unfortunately, there is no way (except doing the calculations in your head), to weed out the resting calories, so you only see the actual active calories of the activity.

In the daily calorie overview, the calories are split into rest and active calories. As a consequence, your active calories will grow with a smaller number than the total calories of the activity.

It becomes more obvious in walking activities, because these are usually rather low intensity, so the ratio of included resting calories in the activity becomes higher.
