Fine tuning Garmin Connect app

The app is Ok as far as it goes, but...is somewhat unintuitive.

When I am importing a gpx track for my hike, the process takes me to a page labeled "Course Setup." Here I have the option of selecting a course type and am given three biking options, two running options and "other." What I want to do is label it "hiking." I already have hiking set up as an activity. Using other, I can import it then reclassify to Hiking but it would be very nice to skip teh tedious second step of editing the course.

Second I don't run and would like to delete the two running options for course types and declutter the Course Setup page.

Can anyone point out to me how to do these?
  • I took my problem to Garmin chat support. Following a response that directed me to a unhelpful web page, the next answer was " the mobile app isn't meant to have an import for third party course files. "

Which is silly because the app easily accepts GPX files from cloud services and converts them into courses. It is obviously meant to do this and the source of the GPX doesn't affect the way the app works anyway. And the response doesn't address my question either. When I pointed this out,"Jay" disconnected me. Leaving a canned message to take a feedback survey. Grr.

Jay gets very poor marks from me. But I'm sure he knows less about it than I do because Garmin is not training him. So the poor marks are really for Garmin and their lousy manuals and support.
