Turn by turn Audio prompt switch off after sync

I am trying to enable the Audio prompt for turn by turn navigation in my Garmin connect App IOS 12.1. My device is agarmin Edge 820. I go to Garmin connect > Garmin Device > Settings > Device Settings > Audio Prompt > Turn ON the Turn by Turn navigation alert > go back and Sync to save the settings.

Error : After sync the turn by turn navigation alert switch is automatically getting switched OFF. I am fully blocked. Appreciate any help or help raising a defect.
  • I am having the same issue with my Edge 520 Plus. It was working fine but now exact same issue. Anybody else?
  • I am having the same issue with both of our Edge Explore devices connected to two different iPhones with the latest iOS and the latest GCM.

The turn by turn audio prompt never worked. When you look at more - settings - app-diagnostics you will see lots of information about the behind the scene workings of GCM.

Under "Paired Garmin Devices" quite early in the long list there are three entries starting with "audioPromptsSettings.announce". The third entry should be the turn by turn audio prompt, but it is a "PaceSpeed" prompt, which the EE does not have and also is not shown in the settings screen where I turn the three available prompts on or off.

Clearly there is a mismatch between the EE capabilities and the GCM functionality. Maybe this is also the case for the two devices mentioned above.

The latest Garmin connect update on iOS still does not fix this issue. How can such critical feature remain broken for so long??

Bought the new Garmin Edge 520 PLUS bike computer Jan 2019. Have owned several Garmin Fitness products. Spent about 4 hours yesterday trying to enable “turn by turn navigation audio prompts” - but could never get it to work. Tried many, many steps: reinstalling/resetting device and app on iPhone. Deleted and repaired Bluetooth (both BT connections) many, many times. Several iterations of all of the above. Basic troubleshooting. I’m using iPhone X with latest iOS. Upgraded the Connect mobility app. Deleted and reinstalled. Everything (iPhone, Edge 520 Plus, Mobile connect App, and Desktop) are all on lastest, up-to-date firmware, etc The issue is on the audio prompts enablement screen. The Navigation Alert toggle is just below the lap alert. It seems to be entirely non-functional. When I toggle the navigation alerts ON and back out of screen, then come back it is always diabled. (Lap Alert Toggle works fine and uploads to device.) But the Navigation Alert toggle is being totally ignored. See attacheed send screen shot. As another poster wrote, if you look at the sync-logs, the other toggles are all represented. Seems I can get everything else to work fine, uploading, downloading maps, etc. However this Voice Navigation toggle seems to be 100% smoke and mirrors at the moment. Took it back to REI and showed them. 3 cycle staff played around with it and searched the formums, etc. They suspect buggy Garmin software. We submitted all of this info and pics to Garmin support online - but NO response. This is a showstopper for me. The audio prompting is THE primary feature I was looking for. If I can’t get spoken audio navigation prompting to work then I will return this device. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. :)ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1445197.png
  • borj11 - There will be a Garmin Connect app update released in the near future (early February) that will resolve the Turn by Turn Navigation Alerts. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and all of the other individuals in this thread.
  • The new GCM update (4.15) for iOS is now available and can be downloaded through the App Store. This will resolve the problem with the navigation alerts.

This is now solved. Indeed - Garmin tech support communicated to me that they would work on and publish a new release of the Connect app software through the iphone store. I had to send them a very large, compressed copy of my device RAM. After a few weeks - they did release an app update which seems to have resolved the issue. I have taken the 520+ outdoors several times for a test, and it is now working as advertised. Case closed. Thank you.
