OK, here is the fix that worked on my Fenix 5x.
I spent 30 min on hold with Garmin CS and they said to do the following which actually worked. On your iPhone:
Settings/Notifications/Messages select "Always…
Do the notifications stop coming through or do they just not show icons or notification counts on the watch faces?
Are you using stock watch faces or 3rd party watch faces?
Do you leave Garmin Connect Mobile running in the background on your phone?
I ask the above because in my situation, I can force close the GCM app on my phone and notifications will still come through but they won’t show on any 3rd party
watch face, as they indicate that connection has been lost. If I leave the app running in the background I don’t see any issues, except burning through my iPhone battery at an increased rate!
Aside from the above I’m afraid I can’t be of any more help.
Hi! Same issue here with iPhone X on 12.2 recently updated (fee hours ago) to 12.3! Same behaviour on both!
My watch is a Fenix 5x plus!
I have been struggling with this issue for about a week or a bit more!
Generally my notifications stop working at night, in case anyone thinks I have do not disturb while sleep on, I DO NOT!
Up until earler today, I was running the Fenix 5x plus firmware version 7.10!
I change my watch faces quite often, I do NOT use the stock ones, but I vary between more data rich faces and very simple ones! Right now I am on instinct 2 watchface but the notifications intermittently stopping happens on all faces I used!
I looked for new releases and no final version firmware exists! I did go to see what betas are available, and there is a beta 7.52 which says it addresses random notifications intermittently stopping : www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp
So I took my chances and did the beta update procedure!
All was well until a few minutes ago when i got a notification on my phone but not on the watch!
So, I began a series of tests to see where the issue comes from!
1. On the watch : Turned DND on and the off again, notifications NOT coming through
2. On the watch : Turned Alerts off and the on again!
This got it to work!
This behaviour on 7.52 beta is exactly the same as the 7.10 final I ran until earlier today! So tbey said that they fixed it but obviously ... not!
Here’s what they say on the page (link above) about 7.52
I've recently started experiencing this issue as well, I'm not sure if it was before or after the 7.10 update on the Fenix 5X+. Oddly I do get calendar notifications and call notifications, no text notifications. I'm running the latest version of iOS.
I’ve had this issue for a few years. I called garmin and they suggested deleting old notifications from the phone. I receive a lot of notifications throughout the day and never deleted them. Since I’ve deleted the old notifications, it’s been working fine so far. Wish I would’ve known this sooner.
I have owned my Fenix 5x for about 8 months and have experienced the same problems listed above. In the past, if I turned my Bluetooth off then on, the problem would go away.
But, I just updated my iPhone 7 with iOS 13; alerts work, but not text messages. I have turned DND & Alerts off/on, which did not resolve the issue.
I have disconnected/reconnected, forgotten device/paired Fenix 5x, powered off/on, both my phone & watch with no change.
Anybody have an idea how to resolve this? I really love the capability of glancing at my watch to quickly see who has texted me. Handy when driving or working out. Garmin...please fix the problem, bc this is some BS.
Warmest regards-
A guy who paid $600 for a watch that does not do what it advertises.

In my Settings > Notifications > Messages, I had the option for “Notification Center” turned off, but all other options turned on (i.e. “Lock Screen” and “Banners” were on, as were badges). I was confused since the phone always showed the text message notifications but they would never show up in my watch, yet other notifications would show up on both. Turns out, for the notification to be pushed to the phone, the “Notification Center“ option has to be turned on! I must have turned it off some time ago when fiddling with my phone. It’s not in the manual, I just happened to turn it back on and it started working. Like this you can select which notifications get pushed to your watch and which don’t, which I think is awesome! I just wish the manual had this information, but it doesn’t (at least the online version doesn’t).
I have iOS 13 and software version 8.40 on my Fenix 5X Plus
