I have been seeking a replacement for my Jawbone UP3 since Jawbone finally killed its service and sync capabilities last week. I wear an Apple Watch during the workday and used my Jawbone for sleep and working out (including on the soccer field). I was hoping to find minimalistic yet powerful tracker to replace the Jawbone, and decided to purchase the Garmin Vivosmart 3.
Although initially impressed with the Garmin, I was dismayed to realize that my step count in the Garmin app was way off - it was not counting all of my steps. have realized that even though Garmin includes limited Apple Health integration, that does not include importing steps from Apple Health sources. So the steps I take when wearing my Apple Watch (or even the built-in step tracking on iPhone) are not reflected in the Garmin app.
This inability to work with steps from my other devices means I can’t really use the app the way it was intended (including showing accurate stats and having accurate insights) unless I strap the Garmin (and only the Garmin) to my person 24/7. This kind of platform lock-in is frustrating and may lead me to abandon my Garmin if I can find another tracker that does a better job of integrating data from Apple Health.
With Fitbit outright rejecting Apple Health integration, I thought Garmin was my answer. I am sad to see it may not be so!
