I love Insights. I'm 72 yo. I currently wear a Garmin Vivosmart HR+. I also own an FR70 (the one-piece watch where the band could not be replaced), FR201 (a brick for the upper arm), and Vivofit 1 (good watch, now outdated). The useful thing about Insights is they allow me to compare myself against a group of my choosing. They show that I'm in the 99% for duration, distance, and activities, but much much lower for pace. I'm working on improving my pace, just as I have for the last 72 years without much success.
Most of my insights either lack insight or are based on the measurement error of the device. The "Comparison of Floors Climbed" really stands out as I never take elevators. Lately I've been bothered by the "You are on Track to Meet Your Goal" insight around mid-day when work has me stuck at a desk and my step count is way below normal - Garmin has no basis for the optimistic prediction on those days and I resent being passively reminded that I'm having a desk-intensive day by an sophisticated device running a Stone Age algorithm. Another example - a 9 hour gravel/mtb ride with 1400 m of climbing (on the bike) with a few hundred metres of hike-a-bike descending down a steep rocky escarpment. On that day I got the lame insight about "taking the ups with the downs" rather than the obvious "congratulations on your 3000 kcal bike ride" - I was logging the ride with my Garmin Edge using Garmin Connect.
I agree. Garmin sends me a warning about taking elevators when I haven’t been near elevators in weeks! I’m in the mountains!
also sometimes we should be rewarded for rest days! I’m trying to heal a foot injury so a low step count is actually a success!
