How to set autoUploadSetting to NO

In the GCM app diagnostic log I can see that for my registered Fenix 3 the variable autoUploadSetting is set to YES.
How can it be modified to NO, so that the Fenix 3 will not automatically sync a new activity once reconnected via bluetooth to the phone it is paired to?

Thank you for your help!
Corrado

  • Thanks!
Given your answer, I suppose that nothing changed from the post you linked: the only current workaround is still to turn off bluetooth, right? So still no way to avoid the auto upload of activities?
  • Or simply not pair your fenix 3 with your Bluetooth Smart compatible mobile device. Or not install the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your mobile device. Or disable Internet connectivity on your mobile device.

Or just not save the completed activity on your fenix 3, if you don't actually want it appearing in your activity history. I cannot really think of why you would want it on your wearable device but not the cloud-based Garmin Connect service, unless you want to be able to extract the FIT file of the activity record for processing outside of the Garmin ecosystem, but effectively without committing it into the Garmin ecosystem.

Remember, a saved activity record will be uploaded to Garmin Connect if it is saved on the device – even if you switch off Bluetooth on your fenix 3 – upon next sync over USB (by way of the Garmin Express application on your computer) or Wi-Fi, unless you delete it from the watch before then.
  • Thank you once again for the extensive reply and explanation.

The fact is that I need to tweak pool swimming activities before uploading them. And sometimes (and just sometimes) they would auto upload even with the GCM app not open on the phone.
All of this would not be much of an issue, if not for the Strava algorithm that prevents duplicate activities - even of deleted ones - thus preventing the new one to be pushed automatically on to Strava (and the manually imported one not showing lap times...).

Thank you for your time and patience!
  • I'm afraid I can't help you further with that, because:
    • I don't (and won't!) use an iPhone for a mobile handset
    • I don't have a fenix 3, or another Garmin wearable device model that supports swimming as a type of timed activity
    • I don't use Strava
    • I don't swim
so I have no idea about the procedural steps and intricacies in recording a swim, tweaking the activity record after saving it on the wearable device, and pushing it through to Strava.
