Changing workout type in iOS app destroys data

I‘ve noticed that many of my workouts show really similar calories after I changed the workout type in the Connect app on iOS (I‘m using a Vivosmart HR+). Since I was suspicious, I made the following test. I recorded a 5min cardio workout and did nothing. The app showed 3 calories. So far so good.

But then I changed it to indoor running and — magically — got 35 calories. And when I then switched back again to Cardio, I ended up with 26 calories.

It seems to be as if — after changing the workout type — the app is calculating the calories only based on time and workout type, and not on my actual activity!

This is terrible and it happens regardless of which workout type I choose.
And since the HR+ itself lets me only choose 4 different workout types, all those fancy categories in the app are useless because choosing them in the app after the workout messes up and destroys my date.

Thos clearly seems to be a bug (and a huge one), but I didn‘t find anything in the forums. Does anyone have the same problem or ca reproduce this?

Danny, I have the same issue. Agree it seems like a massive bug. My garmin forerunner records say 600 cals for my workout. I thought this was based on HR, time, so within the bounds of accuracy, should reflect effort irrespective of what I was actually doing. Once imported into the app, the calories change depending on what I categorise the activity as. Anything from 130 cals if I call it indoor cycling to 500-odd cals if I call it treadmill running. This is nonsense, surely. I hope we get a response.
  • Same for me: Connect recalculate calories for time and type of activity and doesn't take into account HR at all.
Even if you don't change type Connect recalculates calories.
I.e. I had a ride. I uploaded activity from my Edge 820 to Connect on Android. If I select "Edit activity" and then don't change anything and return to main activity screen (with three circles) calories became dramatically higher: from 1.5 to 2 times approx.
Or today I had a run. My Forerunner 920XT calculated 865 cak based on my HR. I uploaded to Connect. Selected "Edit" and returned back to three circles and calories dropped to 706.

This bug came about 14 January. I send an email to Support but they disn't answer yet.

Same for me on a Fenix3. I added the distance in spin class since it doesn’t track it. The app then added 400+ calories more......
  • Came here to search and find the same thing. I'm going to put in a support ticket to get to the bottom of this, as I'll have an hour of activity swing 250 cal upon changing activity type. Completely unacceptable.

Can you let me know if there is an update to this bug since this post nearly 2 weeks ago? I have the same issue as described and I am nervous about editing any of my activities until I hear that the bug is fixed. Please provide an update.

Same problem here and I'm on Android. I don't think it's isolated to one app or another.
  • Just another +1 with the same issue here. Examples being I ran yesterday and my Feñix 3 said 419 calories - this number also automatically imported into MyFitnessPal. I then used the iOS app to edit the name, activity type and event type and the calories changed to 439. This morning I cycled and was given 98 calories, which has now changed to 76!

This seems fixed for me now.
