Garmin Connect Sync on iOS 11

Since I updated to iOS 11, Garmin Connect Mobile no longer syncs with my Garmin Fenix 5S automatically via Bluetooth. I need to open the GC Connect App, and them manually click on the sync button (or do the same on my watch).

my vivoactive HR now turns itself off so it doesn't record my activity or keep the activity that was recorded before it turned off. i updated the software on it along with the new ios update...i don't know which one is causing an issue. the music feature is extremely sensitive and starts playing my music with the slightest brush up against anything.
  • Still no resolution for all the problems, after the initial response which I received from Garmin's NL support, in which they asked me to do a standard set of actions, I replied that they should maybe check out this forum and read what's already been done by the user community. In respons to that they asked me to provide very detailed information about my phone, software versions, installed apps on the Garmin device, the installed directory on the watch, and many logfiles and config files, in order for them to forward to their software developers. I know getting a root cause will take some time from their part but still have some hope that they come up with something.

  • They had several months of iOS 11 Beta software, and I doubt they tested anything.

    They just don't care.
  • Fenix 5S and iPhone 6S+
Seems fine during the day, however first sync of the day requires the iPhone to be rebooted. VERY POOR RESPONSE from Garmin.
I cannot find steps to replicate the problem.
Garmin, if you read this, Im happy to run diagnostics to support getting this resolved.
  • Garmin 230 and iPhone 7 same problem. Stops to sync.

I've found I need to start GC manually before before almost every ride [morning& evening] on my iphone 5s [ios11] to connect with the Edge 820. As soon as the App starts the 820 indicates the connection and the alerts & syncing work for the duration of the activity. I never close the GC app.

Been using an 820 for over a year without this particular problem but started noticing the BT connection issues in the last month or so, however, i was using an iphone 5 [ios10] until 2 weeks ago.

  • I have a 5S paired to an iPhone 6 and I’m having problems too. The watch will show its paired in iOS settings, but will not connect to the app. If I restart the watch and the phone I can get it to start working again for a time. I’ve had a Fenix 3 and a 920xt and haven’t previously had this issue. Hoping for a fix soon.

Forerunner 235 and iPhone 6S failing to sync ever since updating to iOS 11.03.

There must be a large percentage of Garmin customers with this issue and getting annoyed ...

    Hi Guys,

    I had the same issue:
    Ios 11.0.3
    Forerunner 235.
the FR235 and Garmin connect see each other, but were not able to pair. But I might have found a solution:

    what I did:
    • Keep pushing the on/off button on the FR235 till the screen is indeed blank.
    • turn your iPhone off and on
    • then, turn off your bluetooth on the iPhone (but NOT in the activity center, so through the system preferences).
    • make sure all the applications are closed
    • turn bluetooth on again
    • I received a question on the iPhone in the bluetooth menu "open for new connections with devices" (not sure what it is exactly in English- my iPhone is in Dutch) > accept it
    • turn the FR235 on again
    • go to the Garmin connect and pair the FR235 with the iPhone
    • worked for me immediately
what can be the different with others:
    • if you turn off bluetooth in the activity center (scrolling bottom-up on the homescreen, your bluetooth isn't turned off really. it only breaks every connection. if you turn the bluetooth off/on in the system preferences menu it is actually off/on.
    • as mentioned in the steps > this was the first I saw a message if the iPhone was able to connect with other devices. this might be a block from apple to make sure then unintended devices connect with the iPhone. if this is blocked, off course any other watch can't pair with the iPhone.
I hope it works out with others.

don't hesitate to send me a pm if further questions.
