Garmin Connect Sync on iOS 11

Since I updated to iOS 11, Garmin Connect Mobile no longer syncs with my Garmin Fenix 5S automatically via Bluetooth. I need to open the GC Connect App, and them manually click on the sync button (or do the same on my watch).
  • Due the “2. dec bug” I’ve updated my iPhone 6 to 11.2., GCM is on 4.1.3 - and after nearly a month the sync looks working normal. No need to messing with Bluetooth nor need to restart the phone.
Crossing fingers that it’s not only a one day fix from Garmin and Apple.

Same - installed iOS 11.2 last night, and have had solid bluetooth connectivity all day so far on my Fenix 3, which I haven't had in a month. I wonder then if it was an iOS issue and not Garmin ?
  • I have a Forerunner 735 and an iPhone X. I had regular syncing issues with this Forerunner and my old iPhone 6 but nothing like today. This morning Forerunner just refused to sync, period. I turned both devices on and off several times - no go. Then thinking that maybe deleting and reinstalling the device from the app would help, I did just that. No, it made it worse. Now I can't even add the device back to the app, the phone and the watch don't see each other. Not sure which devices' fault this is. The Forerunner is on 4.1.3, and I just updated my iPhone to the latest 11.2 - same deal. I don't know what else to do barring deleting the app on my phone and reinstalling it - and possibly wiping off the watch back to the factory settings. I honestly feel like I am about to scream. Any advice is hugely appreciated.

I ended up deleting Garmin Connect from my phone and then reinstalling it. Only then and only after four or five attempts I was able to pair the phone and the watch. Why it happened on the fifth attempt and not say on the second, no idea, it was completely random. Bluetooth worked for the rest of the day yesterday but as of this morning it's the same story - no bluetooth connectivity and therefore no syncing. Restarted both the watch and the phone - still no luck.

As my iPhone pairs thru bluetooth just fine with my car and wireless ear buds, I believe the issue is on the Garmin side of the fence. Garmin, you guys really need to fix this. It's getting ridiculous.Hi tech products that are sold at a premium shouldn't come with ongoing issues like this one.

WonderGus. Try using a BT scanner app on ur phone to make the BT connection to ur watch. See my post above for the free app I used. The connection with my phone has now been solid for over a day, with both notifications and a re-sync (watch to phone) occurring automatically after my lunchtime run. I didn’t take my phone on the run hence the re-sync ???? Finally I’m a happy Forerunner935 owner, well ????????
  • Oups - forgot to mention - have a Fenix 5.
  • I am having the same issue. Bluetooth will not stay connected if I get too far away from my phone. Phone still says my vivoactive is connected via Bluetooth but it is not connected in the Garmin Connect app. Most of the time, I have to completely reboot my phone (iPhone 7+ with iOS 11) before it connects to the Garmin Connect app
  • VivofitHR & ios11.2.
Bluetooth will not connect to GC.
    Device up to date.
    Phone up to date.
    Frustrating.

Same here, after I updated my phone to iOS11 several months ago, the connection stays up for a day or so after restart of iPhone. Usually disconnected in the morning when I wake up and the only way to connect is to restart iPhone (the phone is probably at the limit of coverage during the night since the phone is placed in the hallway at the other opposite side of the house as the bedroom resides). During the day, the connection usually stays up, even after being out of range from the phone for short periods of time.

When GC fails to connect to the Fenix 5, BT-status in iPhone settings shows it's connected, but GC still claims it can't find the watch.
At this state, if force quitting GC, the status for Fenix 5 in BT-settings goes from connected to not connnected.
And at this state (when GC cant connect to Fenix 5), if I start a 3rd party BT-status app, like BLE Scanner, it can see/find the Fenix 5, and manage to connect to it, while GC can't.
To me it looks like the problem resides in GC, not iOS (since BLE Scanner manage to see Fenix 5 when GC has entered the state when it can't find the Fenix 5)

One thing I noticed is that when GC successfully can connect to the Fenix 5, if I at this state force quits GC, the connection status in BT -settings still shows that the Fenix 5 is connected. This is ,as described above, NOT the case when GC has lost the connection to the phone.
So, there seems to be some kind of GC background "service" that does not behave.
Didn't have any connection problems before iOS11.

One other thing I noticed is that Garmin support replies in many other threads in this forum, BUT the ones that discusses iIOS 11-GC connection problems. I wonder why?

This problem has been around for almost 3 months now and numerous new GC versions has been released during this time, and none of them has fixed the problem (but we've got a totally new GUI, which seems to be of higher importance than fixing problems that really makes using GC a PITA).

Time for Garmin to escalate this and fix this now!

    iPhone 7 with latest iOS,
    Fenix 5 with 6.0
    GC 4.1.4.2 for iOS
  • my Fenix 5 Sapphire keeps dropping out of it's synching with Garmin connect app on my iphone SE (I am using iOS 11.2). Sometime the synching works fine and then the connection seems to get drop and stays dropped. The bluetooth settings on my iphone shows the phone is connected but there is no connection with the Garmin Connect App. I have tried Pairing the phone again but it doesn't seem to work? Any clues?
  • Same problem with Garmin Connect and IOS 11 .. have run all the updates and have to restart the phone to get the app to connect. It lasts for maybe 24 hours and then back to being not connected. Garmin need to fix this.
  • Is this a Garmin fix or a ios fix?
