Garmin Connect Sync on iOS 11

Since I updated to iOS 11, Garmin Connect Mobile no longer syncs with my Garmin Fenix 5S automatically via Bluetooth. I need to open the GC Connect App, and them manually click on the sync button (or do the same on my watch).

My Garmin VivoFit3 stopped syncing after upgrading my iPhone 7 to iOS 11. After a few days, it started working again, but now that I've upgraded to iOS 11.01, it's stopped again. Plus, in my troubleshooting process, I disconnected it from Garmin Connect Mobile and now it won't even pair back up. Very frustrating. The app appears to see the device, asking me if I see the four digit code, (which I do see) but still fails to pair, during the completing Set up stage. How do I get a firmware upgrade to a device that does not physically connect to my PC?

    11.0.2 incoming.... *fingers crossed*
  • I have been having the same issue with my 920XT and iPhone 6. Syncing worked fine until the latest iOS update. Now when I open Garmin Connect it doesn't recognized that it is connected to the watch. I chatted with Garmin support and they walked me through these steps to refresh the connection:

    1. First up, please press and hold the power button on the 920 until the screen goes blank. DO NOT select yes/no when prompted.
    2. Next, please go to the Bluetooth menu on the iPhone and make sure the Forerunner is not listed as a paired device. If it is, remove/forget.
    3. Please close all apps on your iPhone, then press and hold the Home button and the Power button until you see the Apple icon. Let me know when the phone has rebooted.
    4. Turn on the watch and go back through the pairing process with your phone, using Garmin Connect.
    5. Phone should pair with the watch and sync with Connect.

They have told me that should resolve the issue. I will try it a few times in the next few days and see what happens!

UPDATE - I went through this process last week and it has NOT resolved the issue. I have to go through some stupid sequence of quitting the app, turning off bluetooth, activating watch, turning on bluetooth, opening app etc to get it to sync. It used to be so simple! Hoping an update is imminent to fix it!

    Having issues like everyone else.
    IOS 11 with Iphone 7+ Forerunner 920XT
Watch was connected to Bluetooth but would not connect to app, tried turning both off and on and nothing.
Unpaired the watch and attempting to repair with no success. Plugged watch in to update to 9.40 and still no luck.
When pairing the app will recognize the watch and start to pair but will not get any further.

Super frustrating especially with a huge event coming up this weekend.

Exact same issue for me. Very annoying. I hate software developers, always seem so out of touch and behind the curve.

Well, for now this seems to have fixed all the issues with smart notifications and auto sync. Still a bit suspicious but so far so good.

Same issue here. But this was on iOS 10 too, and updating to iOS 11.0.2 didn't fix it.
This regression was introduced between Garmin Connect Mobile version 3.22.1 and 3.22.2.8

Well, as a matter of fact, smart notications are no longer working at this point. No manual sync was done and looking at connect.garmin.com it says the latest sync was done at 13:41 (it is now 14:03)

So I guess 11.0.2 didn't bring what was hoped for...
  • I've called Garmin twice in the last week about this issue. I'm running iOS 11.0.1 on an iPhone 8. I wear the Approach X40. Everything seems to be syncing except for the weather app. We fixed it by removing and reinstalling the device on Garmin Connect. But it is only stable for a short while, and then it stops syncing again. I'm also using GC beta, so I'm not sure if maybe that's the problem, but I'm guessing not.

But that's really not acceptable. The techie said he was going to research this to see if it has something to do with the latest iOS release, which is probably the case. I told him that others are having his issue and that it's documented on this forum.

I played a round of golf today and my Approach X40 tracked and worked okay. But it doesn't show up in my scorecard on Garmin Connect.

Additionally, I'm still not being recognized in Garmin Connect Mobile. I submitted an email to Garmin yesterday (in addition to the two phone calls) but haven't received a reply yet. It sounds like this whole issue is related to the latest iOS update rather than with our Garmin devices.

I'll keep you posted once I hear back from Garmin tech support.
