Active Calories very low

Hi
I've got a vivomove which tracks the number of steps I take very accurately. This is a big improvement on my old fitbit which counted about 25% under what I actually did.
However, I don't seem to get very good value for my steps, when it comes to active calories.

For example, today I did 9702 steps, which included a 3km run, and I have been awarded 280 active calories. When my boyfriend does less steps than that, he gets 740 active calories. He is bigger, but this seems like something is not right.

The other day I did 22,000 steps and got 740 active calories. I'm of fairly average height and weight and in my late 30s.

The data is then fed in to myfitnesspal and I am getting very little credit for my activity, which makes meeting my calorie goal impossible.

Has anyone got any tips to improve the accuracy? I accept it's never going to be 100% but it is so far off I might as well not even wear it.

I have tried changing my activity level in garmin connect to see if that has any impact on my efficiency but that has made no difference.

Thanks

Any ideas? It's a nice looking device but is pretty hopeless as an activity tracker.

Mine just started doing similar to what you mention. When I go to Garmin Connect, I see 600 active calories then go to MyFitnessPal and see something like 250 active calories.
I have gone back a couple weeks and they both show exactly the same. ( Strava has always been different though ) There must have been an update or something that messed up the sync. I have read others deleting then re-installing one or both of the apps with some success. I don't know what data is lost by doing that so I haven't tried it.
I don't know the cause but I just either add an activity in MyFitnessPal to adjust the calories or just do the math in my head.
