V02-value and activity class is not being updated in app?

Hi!

1) In my GC-app-profile there are two v02 values. One for biking and one for running. Both says 0 ml/kg. But in the device (FR 630) and in garmin connect web, it says 44ml/kg. Why is this not shown in the app?

2) As i understand, the device algorithm is adjusted to training history ("activity class"). But in my app and web profile, activityclass 5 is ALWAYS shown. Why is it not being updated if i train less or more? I notice that the device is adjusting, but i want to follow my activity class development but it seems impossible....

Anyone?

Best regards

Where are you looking? My VO2Max number is showing in Garmin Connect Mobile app for iOS (v3.15.1.0).

    That's not my understanding.

I don't recall ever seeing any suggestion in material published by Garmin (including but not limited to owner's manuals) that the activity class in a Garmin Connect user's profile will be updated by a Garmin wearable device.

A table is provided in Garmin Connect online for users to manually select the value (as in self-report) accordingly, but that's about it.

The footnote certainly suggests the device will use the value (manually provided by the user via Garmin Connect) as a factor in estimating functional aerobic capacity, and probably in energy consumption calculations as well, but it isn't a metric (with changing values) on which the device will report.
  • There is a discussion about activity class here with a post by BBECKER39 that explains it well:

The Firstbeat software estimates your Activity Class based on a seed value and your metrics during each run. For your first run, there is no seed and Firstbeat estimates your Activity Class based on your user profile. For subsequent runs, the seed is the output of the previous run.
    [..]
The user configurable Activity Class value is deprecated in the most recent version of the Firstbeat embedded software and is only present on GC to support older devices with older versions of Firstbeat.

Thanks! But thats a shame - i would like to see which activity class my device has calculated for me (and for my friends, in their profiles). It is nice to compare who has done the most training lately, and if i am higher or lower in activity class than last month. Do you agree?
  • Twinaxx is right

VO2-max: Thanks. It seems like i must set the VO2-max in my profile MANUALLY? That seems really bad, or is your profile automatically updated as your v02max changes?

Activity class: As Twinaxx say, the devices is still using that table in its algorithms, and it is adjusting the value (1-10) depending on the training i have performed lately. I have not seen Garmin saying it should update, but i think that would be more logically than showing a value which i entered 2 years ago? And one wants to see the activity class, right? Therefore this looked like a no-brainer to me......it SHOULD update the profile, period! Do you Agree?
  • That seems really shitty, or is your profile automatically updated as your v02max changes?
My Forerunner automatically updates the VO2Max number for running in my Garmin Connect user profile.

No, I don't agree, because I don't think it's a valid assumption that my Forerunner will track all of my exercise automatically (especially in the absence of Move‑IQ). Why would my Forerunner know anything about my swimming or my martial arts practice, for example, even though both would be legitimately exercise that ought to be taken into account for determining the activity class?
