Functional Threshold Power (FTP) not in App

FTP is being calculated and displayed in my Garmin Edge 520.

However, it is not showing up in the IOS Garmin Connect app. There is an page in the app under Performance Stats called FTP but when going into that page it says "No data available".

I am using a power meter on the bike (but not Vector). I also use a Garmin 235 (which can not calculate FTP) but it is not used in Activity mode when on the bike (I use the Edge).

All other metrics (including VO2 Max) seem to transfer from the Edge 520 properly. Anyone know what's wrong?
  • After sent a email to garmin support, they told me that the problems are in the powermeters, because in Garmin powermeter, there are no problems. So stupid....

That makes no sense. The app can read data from other PMs, display a variety of interpretations, and compute averages. The brand shouldn't matter.

It worked fine with my Pioneer PM last year and then stopped working.
  • It's definitely not a non-garmin powermeter issue. I am having the same problem with both a Vector 2S and Vector 3 dual sided system. It shows my most recent value but does not update the graphs.
  • Edge 820 (with Vector 2) is recording FTP but doesn't show on 4 week graph but does show data on the 6 and 12 month pages ?? Have others checked those graphs and have the same issue?
  • from garmin support:

    Hello,

According to our IT department, it is a feature that the Garmin Connect data analysis platform is not currently capable of performing that type of calculation.

In reality it is not a problem since Garmin connect has never had this specific calculation under certain conditions / configurations with which the activity (s) is performed.

We appreciate your comments on our products and software so we want to facilitate the contact of our engineers who will take into account your words and ideas to improve and enable new features in our products and / or software

Thank you, we look forward to your comments.
  • FWIW, Spent an hour on the phone with Garmin support today and they are opening a new case. They recognize the problem, believe it is a software issue, and are reviewing my files to find a solution.
I'm not sure what the response gildosilva posted is in regard to. Since auto FTP and Vo2 max calculation were advertised features of the 520, Garmin is clearly aware that the feature can work. In my own case, it was working fine last year and quit working sometime in the summer.
As an observation - I've been using Garmin bike computers for 4 years, and have ALWAYS gotten great support by calling tech support. email and chat support has been spottier, for whatever reason.
At any rate, I'll post here when Garmin tech support gets back to me next week.

  • Garmin still needs to hear from us to move this up the priority ladder.
