Red notification (1) on GC iOS

I know I could get rid of this simply by switching off the notifications in notification centre on ios, but its bugging me so I want to know the answer.

About a day ago I got a red (1) circle on the GC app on my work iPhone. But I can't trace it to anything I need to clear in GC.

Any pointers as so what it might be?

    Check what your notification settings are set to in the app and then check each one. Things you can get notified of are:

    Connection Requests
    Activity Uploads
    Insights

    Challenge Invitations
    Challenge Reminders
    Challenge Updates
    Challenge Comments
    Challenge Results

    Cheers - had checked all of those with nothing obviously dismissable. I did get a "spam" type connection request a few days ago which I rejected via the website. Most likely culprit then is that this didn't dismiss the notification on the iOS app.

    Got fed up with it now so just cleared it via disabling and re-enabling notifications in the app.

    Same here. I also got a "spam" connection request and I rejected via the GC Mobile app. But the red (1) does not disappear on my GC mobile icon. Disabling and re-enabling notification in the app did not clear it for me.
