transferring step counts from apple health to garmin connect

I wish to transfer my step count from apple health to garmin connect as I primarily use my iPhone as a step counter and the forerunner 235 as my exercise monitor but do not wear it all day. The connect app syncs fine but there does not appear to be a way for the connect app to read apple health's step counter on the settings. Health will read steps from garmin but not the other way. On the garmin connect settings for read data there is only DOB, height, sex, weight options but no step count.

Is there a workaround for this? Perhaps a 3rd party app that will read from apple and writes to connect?

Thanks
  • I've never seen any way to add "non garmin" steps to GC. The only steps are from Garmin trackers.

I believe there are a couple reasons for this.

    1) each vendor has a different logic in what it considers "steps". Garmin for example tries to reject things that aren't steps with a "10 or more" test. Until you do 10 movements the tracker thinks are steps, none are counted, but you get credit for the first 10 if you do more. In the case of a phone, it's sensing steps on a different location on your body (wrist vs pocket, for example) which could also cause differences

    2) if there was any way to change steps, that could lead to the possibility of things like step challenges being influenced - "I left my watch at home and guess I did 10000 steps". This also comes into plays with some employer based "wellness" programs. Some companies will give a break in insurance costs or a bonus if you consistently meet your step goals. With cash on the table, cheating could result.
