Can I sync Garmin Connect with Apple's Health app?

Hi There,

I wanted to get my steps information from Apple Health sources and sync with Garmin Connect. Is that possible?

Also, I wonder if there is a way to sync Garmin Connect activity info to Health app, meaning the other way around. In Garmin Connect it says that can be managed on the Sources tab on Health app, but I can't see the Garmin Connect app icon on the list of 3rd party sources, even though it is mentioned in my Garmin app.

Thanks,

Julio

This is a bug, that was reported by several people, who updated to iOS 10.

But even on iOS 9 the sync to Apple Health is a mess, because there are several bugs too, e.g. every sleep phase even awake times get synced as deep sleep
  • As long as you have Garmin Connect Mobile installed on your iPhone, is should be there. If it isn't, trying removing it and reinstalling it again. Make sure it's open before you go into Apple Health. You should then see Garmin Connect in the list. If you then select it you'll see options for what data can be read and written.

I can't speak for the accuracy as I no longer use my 920 as an activity tracker. However, I do see my activities come through Apple Health and on to my Apple Watch. I also see the steps from Apple Watch go to GCM. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the step counts as it's not a metric I follow. Step counters are notoriously inaccurate at the best of times anyway.

What I will say is that for the metrics I follow, I don't see any thing that has been negatively affected by iOS 10. In fact, there's been improvements that were a bit of a surprise. For instance, I now see my activities come through from my 920XT which they did not use to do.

Oh, and well worth following this thread where people who track more metrics than I do and seem to be having problems:

For a few iOS 10 users it doesn't help to reinstall GCM, it's still not available as a data source in Apple Health.

But it's for sure worth a try.
  • You keep banging the drum about iOS 10 being incompatible with GCM and use for evidence (in this case) 'a few iOS 10 users'.

If it works for one it should be working for all as this issue is not device dependent. The fact that GCM is not available as a data source in Apple Health on an iPhone with iOS 10 would suggest to me that something else is awry and likely unrelated to iOS 10 per se.

One other thing to try is a 'hard reset' of the iPhone. Press and hold the Power button and the Home button together until the Apple logo appears, then release and allow the iPhone to restart.

If you can't stand the truth, ignore it or me ... I don't care.

Without wanting to be offensive, but this statement is plain naive, sorry.

Fact is a few users have major issues with iOS 10 and even a phone reset didn't help.

I can only repeat myself: Never ever install a zero version of a new OS, if you want to avoid issues. The release of iOS 8 caused major issues and iOS 9 too. And as always only a few users and/or apps were affected. But with issues I mean in general, not Garmin related. I myself e.g. had to wait half a year until my guitar app was compatible with iOS 9, just to give an example.

Nevertheless I was curious and updated my company iPhone and I was lucky ... no Garmin issues at all. On my private iPhone though I definitely will wait, because I'm still waiting for response from an app vendor regarding compatibility.

PS: Here's an article about potential iOS 10.0.2 issues and potential solutions:

  • I still have the same issue. I am using an iPhone 6 with iOS 10 and Garmin Connect and it does not show up in Apple Health. My Polar Flow app and others apps work just fine with Apple health. It is only the Garmin Connect app that is not working!
Is there a workaround for this?

Same issue here, iPhone 7 with ios 10.3.2. It worked up to 7/24/17. Then disappeared.
  • Gone from Apple Health on my iPhone 6S too. Apple or Garmin must have changed something. If you're really bothered contact both Apple and Garmin Support about the problem.
  • Just reset and restored my iPhone and the connection is back. That doesn't help identify the source of the problem - iOS or Garmin Connect Mobile - but it did fix the problem. BTW, I did try simply removing and reinstalling GCM first.
