Unable to Activate Weather in Connect 3.10, iOS 9.3.5

Hi,

in Garmin Connect 3.10 running on iOS 9.3.5 and being connected with a Forerunner 735XT I am unable to activate "Weather" in the Device Settings section. The toggle button is greyed out.

Any ideas on how to activate it? It used to work, I am unsure what caused it to stop working.

Regards,
Chris

GPS is activated on the phone? Internet access is needed too for sure.

PS: GCM is allowed to use GPS in iOS settings?
  • Yes, GPS is active, data connection too and I double checked that Apple's Weather app shows me the weather data for "My location".

I'll update to iOS 10 and will check if that helps.

Do yourself a favour and stay on iOS 9, because iOS 10 might introduce further issues. At least this is the case for some customers as you can see here in the iOS forum.

...because iOS 10 might introduce further issues...

Further issues with Garmin Connect or in general?

BTW. There is no way to receive data in weather widget: waiting for data... fenix 3, GC 3.10, iP6s+, iOS 10.

It isn't the same issue nor the same watch but I think it could be related.

Both, similar as when iOS 9 was released, where I had also to wait. Many apps got updated for iOS 10 already, but for many the compatibility is questionable. GCM is obviously one of them. But the internet is also full of reports about iOS 10 issues like battery life, WiFi and Bluetooth, etc..

Some people are lucky and some get mad ;)

So google about iOS 10 issues and make sure all needed apps are compatible before you upgrade. Fact is some people seem to have GCM issues under iOS 10.

Yes ... btw, there's a long thread about weather widget issues in the Vivoactive HR forum. Mine works fine and others with the same hard- and software get no data updates ... strange.
  • Try resetting the VAHR a few times ... odd as it sounds, this works.

It took me about 6 resets, over a few weeks, but finally the weather widget works the way it's supposed to.

  • Unsure what you mean by "resetting the VAHR" - this problem occurs on a Forerunner 735XT.

Anyways last night I went all in and

    - installed Garmin Connect for iOS
    - removed the Forerunner 735XT from the known Bluetooth devices
    - rebooted the iPhone
    - factory reset the Forerunner 735XT
    - removed the Forerunner 735XT from my Garmin Connect account on the web
    - repaired the Forerunner 735XT
    - spent 2h setting everything up on the watch
    - GOT WEATHER DATA
    - but the toggle button in iOS is still grayed out
    - paired the Forerunner 735XT to a second iOS device (iPad Air 2) on which I did install Garmin Connect for iOS too - TOGGLE BUTTON GREYED OUT TOO

And this morning: NO WEATHER DATA.

I am starting to either lose it or lose faith in it. It seems to be account related? Of course I don't want to set up a new account and lose all my past workout data so if anybody has an idea on how to progress, I'll be eternally grateful. I did attach screenshots of my iOS settings.

Unsure what you mean by "resetting the VAHR" ...

There is a similar thread in the Vivoactive HR (VAHR) forum, so he ment resetting the device (Forerunner in this case) to factory defaults.

    - but the toggle button in iOS is still grayed out

I fear, that is "normal" or let's say, the case for every iOS user.

And this morning: NO WEATHER DATA.

Because several devices are affected, it seems, this is a bug in GCM for iOS or even all versions. In many cases one or several factory resets work, but for some people only a short time. On my VAHR it always works, when I have internet connection on my iPhone and GPS switched on.
  • Ah, it might be worth checking other iOS user. If anybody happens to have a Forerunner 735XT with a working weather widget, could you please post a screenshot of the device's settings page? It would interesting to see whether the button is grayed out on your device too.

Asking that in the Forerunner forum might lead to a much faster answer ;)
