Forerunner 235 pair failure to iPhone 6/ios9.3.5

Just bought a forerunner 235 and am unable to Bluetooth pair it to my iPhone.
Connect mobile allows me to search for the FR235 initially and finds it. When the pair request is sent to iphone. The pin that is showed on FR235 is entered correctly onto the phone. However shortly after entering the pin, it reports the connection failure and the process should be retried.
Spent roughly 2 hours trying to pair the device.
Tried reinstalling app, resetting watch, restarting iPhone, Turning Bluetooth on/off, even tried connecting FR235 to Windows 10 however this failed to pair in the same place.

Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the following ... I guess the Forerunner behaves similar as my Vivoactive HR:

Delete the Forerunner from the iPhone's Bluetooth devices list and in Connect Mobile. Then select pairing on the Forerunner and then open Connect Mobile. So initiate the pairing from the Forerunner, not from Connect. Then enter the pairing code again.

If the result is negative again, contact support.

PS: That your Windows 10 test failed is not astonishing, because you need Connect Mobile to pair it. If you try to pair directly to the iPhone it will fail too. Garmin's pairing is a bit ... strange.
