Garmin - Course Sync

Hi all.

I have recently purchased a Garmin 520.

I was initially please with the purchased, but I am now finding the device more and more troublesome to use. One of the key reasons for purchase was the ability to plot a course, upload to the device, and follow the course using basic navigation. On purchase, I uploaded 2 courses to the Garmin no problem.

A couple of days ago, preparing for a Sunday ride I tried to upload a new course. I was unable to upload via Garmin Express (although this could be due to my laptop, as the laptop has Symantec and Bitlocker protection), I then tried to upload the course via Garmin Connect on the iPhone (I used the app to sync the initial courses).

I am now receiving a sync error using Garmin Connect, and therefore do not have any means by which to upload to my new device. I have tried reinstalling the app, unpairing the devices however same error.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

    It can be done manually.

    1) Download your course file from:

    https://connect.garmin.com/proxy/course-service-1.0/fit/course/01234567

where 01234567 is the number of your course, found in the url after you choose your course's View Details link

    2) Copy and paste the .fit file into the NewFiles folder of your 520 when it's plugged into your laptop.

    3) Eject and power up.

I always do it manually as it avoids a lot of lost time and grief messing with Garmin's muddle. Good luck with the 520.

    Amazing this works perfectly.

Received a fairly sub-standard reply from Garmin that did not help at all, luckily this will work temporarily. I am convinced the sync issue is with the iOS application, I hope this is fixed in the future.

@AndyJ88 Nice to hear the manual method has got your course loaded. I use it because course points for turn-by-turn navigation don't make it out of GC for most devices and I prefer the comprehensive planning features of RideWithGPS. It does mean converting the resulting TCX to FIT but that is only one more step and the tool for that lets me verify the course points are where I want them. All the best.
