GCM - HealthKit Sync Issues

Hi everyone,

I know there are already a couple of threads on this topic, but I wanted to create an overview of the bugs I have noticed, to check if you have noticed the same, or if I am maybe I am wrong on these points.

  • "Steps" and "Heart Rate" data is written to HealthKit (HK) only on the next day. There is no such delay for the other items, and no reason I can think of why this should be like that, so I assume this is a bug
  • For "Walking + Running Distance", "Active Energy", "Resting Energy", "Flights Climbed" only the current day is written to HK. Past days' data is deleted again when syncing.
  • "Walking + Running Distance" actually contains also cycling distance, and - I assume - all distances from all activities. (This seems to be the same mistake as on the "Step Details" card in GCM - the distance there is confusingly not only related to steps)

Do you agree? Anything I am missing? I have the fenix 3 HR in case this is relevant.

BTW, the FAQ item here does not explain any of these issues.

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Yes I observed the same thing with one small difference - for Steps and HR the data started getting written around 11:30 PM on the same day but I have taken screenshots from my iPhone showing that GCM is in fact removing data from Apple Health. (Took SS last night, this AM before sync and right after sync). I'm a software developer (20+ years) and this is definitely a bug in their HK integration. I have a vivoactive HR.

    Warmly,
    Carl

same issues for me ,quite frustrated.Hope Garmin put more attention to solve the bug
  • Yes. Exactly these three issues make me crazy for a long time, still not fixed. I sent it to Garmin support and hope they can fix this ASAP.
  • New version 3.8 is out - and still no fix!

It clearly seems like this is not on Garmins radar - at all! Every reply from them either clearly shows, that they do not have a clue what Health is or how it works or they say that it is Apple that have a problem. Too bad

Unfortunately I've been having my fun with Garmin Support as well. I can't get them to simply pass this on to their development staff. What's even more frustrating is that they seem to only respond to emails after about 72 hours. I wish someone from Garmin would monitor these forums more actively. :(

    Enormously Disappointed

I bought the vivosmart HR after reading reviews, it sounded great, how disappointed I am now, The app intergration between GCM and apple is woefully inadequate and seems to me to be still in an alpha stage of testing. All I'm asking Garmin bods, is that you fix the problem and in the future not to produce software that a first year degree student would be failed for.

I am also new owner of Vivoactive HR, also face same problem here. Wish Garmin can help to fix asap.
  • Just for fun : the answer I got from Lacy, Garmin Europe:

Garmin does not support Third Party Applications, Maps or Accessories, we can only provide help and support for official Garmin products.
  • Improvements and changes will be made in a future update to Garmin Connect Mobile that will reconfigure how data is sent to Health Kit. In the meantime, leaving GCM open in the foreground for as long as possible will allow for the best syncing results. If additional information becomes available in the form of a timeline or specifics on these changes, we will let everyone know. As always, we thank everyone for the continued discussion and all of the insight you bring and we appreciate your patience while we improve the GCM experience.
