Forerunner 220 will not pair via bluetooth with iPhone SE or iPad pro

I have recently updated my iPhone and iPad, and now find that my Forerunner 220 will not pair via bluetooth with either device.

The forerunner is operating on 3.10

The iPad pro is on IOS 9.3.2, and likewise the iPhone SE.

Bluetooth is turned on for both iPad and iPhone. When running garmin connect app, it asks, 'do you have a garmin device to connect?', I answer 'yes' and select forerunner 220. I make sure my device is in bluetooth pairing mode, and hit 'start'. The iPhone and iPad then 'search for the device' for some time, (minutes), before saying 'Device not found' - 'retry?'

I would welcome any advice please.
