Syncing garmin chest strap to my vivofit active

Hope some one can help recently purchased garmin Vivoactive smart realised after no built in heart monitor , so puchased the garmin chest monitor , but despite fact it is supposed to be compatible I am struggling to sync it to my watch . If someone can help me out that would be great .Thank you
