Widget only work when garmin connect open

Just got my Fenix 3 and trying to set it up. Got the Fenix to pair with my iphone 6 and i am getting notifications from my phone but my widgets only work when i have the garmin connect-app open. For example weather and calendar. Is it suppose to only be working when i have the app open on my phone?

Sadly, yes

And of note -- you also must be connected to the internet on your phone. So if your GCM app is not open, or if it *is* open and your phone has no service, then your F3 (on certain widgets, like calendar and weather) will show the dreaded "Follow steps on Garmin Connect Mobile to pair"

Other widgets, like compass, notifications, steps etc -- all will work fine.

I think that's true for widgets like weather, sunrise / sunset, etc.
