New Fenix 3 not pairing and not connecting to garmin express/connect

Hi, just recently got my new Fenix 3 and have been trying to get it to pair with my iPhone 6 / garmin connect mobile. It completes the Bluetooth pairing but the app fails to complete the pairing. I've tried all the suggestions I can find in this forum (reset, delete Bluetooth connection, re-pair using app, etc). Getting frustrated I tried to connect the watch via garmin express to update firmware and setup wifi, etc but garmin express can't detect the Fenix 3. I tried using two separate computers (Mac and pc) for garmin connect - both did not work. Help.. Getting extremely frustrated with my new Fenix 3..thanks!
  • Do not pair your Fenix 3 from within the BT menu in IOS.

    u need to pair it from within Garmin Connect Mobile only.

    if u try to connect your Fenix on the PC, do u see it as a external drive? what does the screen on your Fenix show if u connect it to the Computer? Does it go to the charging/USB screen?

    Yes I am pairing it through the garmin connect mobile app. I also tried deleting the Bluetooth connection and reconnect but still no progress. It actually connects via Bluetooth but fails to completely pair (time out)

    When i try to connect to a laptop, I doesn't register as an external drive and the screen on the Fenix 3 doesn't change also. There is no response from both.


    Do not pair your Fenix 3 from within the BT menu in IOS.

    if u try to connect your Fenix on the PC, do u see it as a external drive? what does the screen on your Fenix show if u connect it to the Computer? Does it go to the charging/USB screen?
  • Try a factory reset

    1. Switch off your fenix
    2. switch on your fenix, if u see the "Garmin" logo quickly press and hold "Start/stop" and the "Back/Lap" buttons.
    3. On the first beep, let go of the "Start/Stop" button
    4. On the second beep, let go of the "Back/Lap" button.

    Also remove the app from your iPhone and remove the Fenix from your BT settings in the BT menu on your iPhone.

    when that's done, start fresh from the beginning.

  • Oke, that good news about the pairing.

    connecting to the laptop/PC should be quite simple.

    1. connect to your PC, and wait for it to pop up as a External drive.
    2. than open Garmin Express and add your device by clicking the +
    3. login with your account (or make a new one)

    it can take some time between connecting and seeing the F3 appear.

    Tried it now a couple of times and no luck unfortunately. My win 10 laptop isn't detecting the F3 as an external drive and the watch face doesn't change as well. Launching garmin express doesn't do anything as it doesn't detect the F3.
  • Did u try the Mac?

    did u run all the windows 10 updates? I'm using Windows 10 without any problems....

    it it should be unnecessary, but u can try installing the USB drivers from here....

    Hi, thanks for the advice.. Tried to stop doing anything for a few hours and tried again now without doing anything new and it just worked. Not sure why it happened but glad that things are better now.
