Livetrack Failures 920XT iPhone 6+

I have a 920XT and an iPhone 6+. Firmware and iOS app are up to date with latest versions as of 10/25/2015. I have verified that cellular data connection is good and enabled for Garmin Connect.

I am now seeing Livetrack connect and properly start activities, then it always drops the connection a few minutes into the activity. From the phone and the watch, everything appears fine--bluetooth connection is good, phone cellular connection is good. But Livetrack recipients see various problems ("trying to reconnect" or some such) that mean they see only a few minutes of activity then the activity never updates again. Also, when I end the activity on the watch, there is no communication to the iOS GCM app even though bluetooth is connected and the data from the activity is immediately uploaded to the app, to Garmin Connect and to Strava. This failure appears very specific to Livetrack and must have something to do with the connection to the Livetrack servers.

Over the past year I have had numerous Livetrack issues, but with the latest updates, the feature is now essentially useless.

In looking at the forums, it seems lots of people have these issues, but there is little effective response to them.

Anyone have any insight?

Same is happening to me with Edge 810. I expected GCM 3.0 to solve it but no luck. It worked not so bad with older releases.

Same here. Appears to be a commonly reported bug with latest version (3.0) of Garmin Connect. Have rolled back to previous version until Garmin fix.
  • same problem with garmin edge 510 with latest fw, latest ios version and latest GCM version too
mi wife told me that this has to be fixed... she doesn't know where i am while im riding!! hahaha

Latest Version of iOS App is to blame

Livetrack was working perfectly for me (Garmin 1000 and iPhone 5) until the latest release of the App. I now get "Activity ended" within a few minutes of starting the ride. In fact the first one 'ended' before I had even left home.

(Edit - just seen that Livetrack issues are currently listed in the Known Issues post
  • Identical problem as described above with 920xt (5.20), Garmin Connect (3.1.0.13) on iOS (9.1), iPhone 5s. Issues started after Garmin Connect 3.1 update. Fails within minutes of starting an activity - have successfully used LiveTrack for a long time in mixed cell service (not case here) and activity never just hung like this.

the known issue isn't the same that we are talking about
they talk about problems sending livetrack start communication
