Garmin Basecamp Mobile offline functionalitys

When will the GCM functionalities be added to garmin connect?
I remember times we where able to load tracks, routes and pois to our the up to date outdoor devices (Fenix 2) via Bluetooth. Even some which where stored on the phone which was offline. Was a really useful feature if you were hiking and not only doing walks in the city.
Its a PIA that Garmin decided to crippled the newer devices this way.
You could take your phone with maps with you, switch it on when needed, create a new route and send it afterwards via GCM to the device. Without this, neither Fenix 3 nor Epix are outdoor devices, only better sport tracking devices like 920xt.

    I agree with this post!
First of all : while our data connection is offline (because in a dead spot or because travelling abroad) why GCM cannot cache activities and other data so we can be able to browse them? At least, the snapshots pages would be helpful and those data could be easily cached locally, I think.

Moreover, Garmin cannot assume we can always be online to upload data to the cloud: we need to sync to the phone also because Vivoactive devices (for example) can store internally _only_ 10 activities or you will need to overwrite the oldest ones to continue! That would not be a problem if we could sync to the phone and later on from the phone to the cloud.

Would Garmin allow for such kind of features ?
The GC is a very useful tool and would love to see those improvements implemented !

  • +1 to all of this. I've posted in the main GCM suggestions thread a number of times over the past 6 months. There was mention in the DCRainmaker review of the Fenix3 that the Basecamp Mobile functionality was destined to be assimilated in to GCM, but it feels like this was just a rumour now.

+1, hope Garmin read us (and our suggestions in their contact line)
waiting since feb-2015 for all this
  • I fear, if that should really be added in gcm, we will not be able to transfer data without internet connection. Garmin, if someone is really outdoor, he will often not to be able to get an internet connection, outdoor does not mean a walk round the house with live tracking!:p

Meanwhile they removed basecamp mobile (from German app store and the German garmin homepage), because it isn't compatible with iOS 9.x and so I am not able to use it anymore with my fenix 2.
  • Volker, this seems to be a pain in the ass. I also don't believe that DCRainmaker is right when he says they will integrate this offline functionality, even the new overhaul of Express mobile isn't offline capable in what it does right now.

I believe they don't monitor this area of the forum. We have to write emails about it to the Fenix 3 Beta team, they are reading theirs and hopefully forward our suggestion. It has to made clear that there is a real demand for this. And that they did cripple the product out of no reason far beyond tolerable borders. If i knew it before, i wouldn't have bought it. And i still can't recommend it to my peers because they want to do the same thing Volker and i did with apemap and Fenix 2.
  • I started mailing this (many, many times) a year ago (and almost every month since then, as a reminder) to the fenix 3 beta/fw team and also for the epix to the epix beta/fw team. But until now, it was unfortunately ignored...

It's really annoying for a devices 'ON THE TRAIL'
(Is it normal that being at camp/on the trail I have my laptop with me and internet connection? Is it so obvious for everyone in garmin team?)
  • The Fenix 3, the cash cow last year for Garmin!!! still lacks one of the main features of the Fenix Lineup.
The GPSmap64 was also marketed to be compatible to Basecamp mobile and is affected.

Garmin, come on, move on. Cant be too hard to assign some of the Fenix Money to reenabling some Fenix features...
