Galaxy S6 - Vivosmart losing bluetooth connection

Greetings,

First of all - Thank you for the great product and the great app.

I had an OTA firmware update of the Android on my Galaxy S6 several days ago (to Lollipop 5.1.1), after the update it started to have constant "Bluetooth connection lost" issues between the Vivosmart and the Phone. I even did the "factory reset" on the phone but the problem persisted. It feels like it has something to do with the Connect app and S6 Lollipoop 5.1.1 compatibility, because the device was working smoothly before the OTA firmware update.

P.S. Even before the update of the firmware I had to re-grant permission to Connect app for the "Notification Access" after every night (I switch on Airplane Mode during nights). How normal was the regular permission authorization request? It feels like it should be only a one time request during the initial pairing.

Please advise,

V

    Hello @all!

following reply I got from Garmin regarding this annoying Bug:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

We are constantly updating and improving our Bluetooth pairing systems.

After reviewing the thread you posted, it seems that there is a built in task manager in some Samsung devices that stops our program from running in system memory. Circumventing manufacturer's software is not typically supported, and I would recommend contacting Samsung to see if there is a way of disabling this feature. The feature is called SPCM, and seems to be specific to the S6.

Otherwise, you will have to manually re-open the application before a device will sync.

May I say this is not so nice policy of just diverting customers (who not all are software engineers!) directly to phone manufacturer. We can and will do our part, but I reckon Garmin could at least establish direct communication with Samsung and help to sort out the issues which is strictly technical. My perception of their reply is "hey we already took your money, now f-off and go bother Samsung".

May I say that I find not so nice this attitude of Garmin... not all the clients are software engineers.

Surely, we and we will do our part and write to Samsung, but the least they Garmin could do if they really wanted to help is is establish communication with Samsung on the technical level, something we as "dummy users" can not.

Sadly this reply sounds to me much as: "hey I took your money already, now f-o and go bother Samsung if you want"

How does Garmin explain other apps not having problems with this feature? :P

I am not a developer, but I find it hard to believe that you will have to have a Samsung approved app for it to stay resident in memory. And if it was, then I believe it would be the app developer that was to contact Samsung about it.
  • happy news!
