Vivosmart - was paired, had to reboot phone, times out trying to pair with app

Had a Vivofit a year ago, spent a year with several Jawbone products. Got a new phone in April (HTC One M9) finally have bluetooth I can play with. Got the Vivosmart Thursday, got it added to Connect account on laptop, got it paired with phone and it was syncing fine. Friday night it unpaired itself. Tried several times to repair. Think I left the app trying to connect, fell asleep. Woke to a vibration on my wrist, a new code and voila. Had to restart my phone for another reason yesterday and since then I cannot get the app to pair with the Vivosmart.

When I tap and hit the bluetooth on the band, as soon as I hit "OK", the app says "Do you want to pair...." I say yes, then starts the endless loop of timing out while connecting to the device.....

I have tried several times turning off and on:
bluetooth on the phone
reboot the phone
uninstall and reinstall the app (it is most up to date version)
clearing cache in the app
cleared cache on the phone

I don't know what else to do really. No codes show up on the band, band goes back to "sleep" (display off), app keeps trying but continually says it time out connecting to the band. Which seems funny because when I tap the band and say OK to DO YOU WANT TO PAIR THIS VIVOSMART - app instantly pops up the screen where you hit YES. So when it is connected that way, it is instant. When it was connected most of Saturday morning, it was synching, I did a walk, used the activity tracker, working flawlessly.

I don't know if waking the band and going through the steps with bluetooth on band again while it says it is timing out is good or bad. I have at times stopped the attempt to pair the band and started over with both devices - doesn't seem to matter.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions, otherwise I will call support in the morning.

I will plug it in to the charger right now to update so I can see my activity (another walk today). Everything syncs fine with the PC so the band is functioning properly that way.

MBBRN - thanks in advance for any suggestions. I am an RN and have been wearing a watch and a tracker for the last year. Was really looking forward to one thing on my wrist only but I want to see stats on my phone not my computer at home.
  • I presume your vs isn't paired to the phone itself - you're only pairing with the app - right? I do recalkl there were issues with the HTC M8 a while ago but they were fixed. It might be useful to find that thread in the forum if you can.

You could do a soft reset it by charging it fully. Also, you can do full reset by following these steps (from a post by AIIUNeed)

Clear it back to SHIP mode:

    • On the Vivosmart double tab to turn on the screen.
    • Long press to open the system menu.
    • Swipe until you get the i (information) icon.
    • Open information.
    • Press and hold over the version number until it changes to SHIP (about 10 seconds).
    • Tap OK to totally reset the band.
    • Re-set it up in the app.

    Good luck.
  • Working!!

I farted around with this all day yesterday. Finally today uninstalled the app (again), reinstalled. What I think was key was I removed the device from Garmin Express - choosing the option to remove from Express and Connect.

I did yesterday try returning it to SHIP mode. That didn't help.

So I think they key was to completely remove the device from Express and Connect. I added it again with a slightly different nickname. As soon as that was done, I could add the device in mobile app with no problem - instant 6 digit code. We will see how it goes today. Going to walk again, will try walking away from my phone (out of bluetooth range) and see if it automatically reconnects.

Crossing my fingers this is the fix. If so, hope it maybe helps someone else.
  • So far so good

Walked using the activity tracker. Have walked away from and back to phone, bluetooth connection goes off and back on, with vibration on the band when I lose connection and when it reconnects. So far no issues. I really didn't think it was my phone, I have it connected to my car stereo and a Jabra hands-free for talking while driving and it connects flawlessly with both of those devices. So I knew it was something dumb, I just had to figure it out. Loving the band so far, lightweight, has so many options. Have not tried to wear it in the shower, guess I just think electronics shouldn't get wet.

  • Lost bluetooth overnight - back to square one

Band and phone were working flawlessly last night. Now connection lost and Garmin Connect says Vivosmart is not connected. BT on and off on the phone and on band not working. Will try restarting the phone. Ugh.
  • Mine has been solid but back in the day when it wasn't, I found that airplane mode on my phone worked better than turning bluetooth on and off. In going into airplane mode, I would wait until my band would signal lost bluetooth connection before taking my phone out of airplane mode. I did that because there could be as much as a half hour delay to reconnect if I just turned bt on and off but only maybe a minute coming out of airplane mode.
