I have not been able to sync my vivosmart to my Garmin connect app. It says syncing, tho it is not syncing any new data. I have turned on and off my wifi, blue tooth, restarted my phone, even uninstalled the garmin app and reinstalled. So frustrating! Is there anything else I can do?
I looked into Phil's advice and it took a little more effort than just plugging the device into the USB...but it did put me on the right track.
This is what finally worked for me! I reloaded the Garmin Express firmware to the device. Basically, its a start over!

Update the vivosmart firmware
Updating with a computer (recommended)
Visit http://connect.garmin.com/vsdesktop Follow the instructions to connect the vivosmart to your computer and enter USB mode
Download and install Garmin Express
Follow the on-screen prompts to add your device to Garmin Express
Click Install All to install the new software
After removing the unit from the charger, the unit will display 'Updating Software...'
Allow the update process to complete
