The bluetooth of my vivosmart will not stay connected to my galaxy note 3 therefore no data is being recorded to my on phone app. Was working fine till last week now have to battle to reinstall onto my phone every day but is seldom able to communicate with phone. When it does connect only stays connected for short amount of time. Feeling very frustrated as rely on this for daily training!!!

    Dear DonnaG70,

Please ensure that you are running the latest software on your device. You can update your device by going to Garmin.com.Express. You will need to pair your device through Garmin Connect Mobile instead of your phone's Bluetooth settings. You may also want to try the following:
    • Make sure the Android software on your phone is up to date.
    • Make sure the Connect Mobile application is up to date.
    • Clear the Bluetooth pair history from phone.

Android (Devices previously paired with Connect Mobile):

    1. Open the Connect Mobile app.
    2. Tap on the Menu button (three lines in upper-left corner).
    3. Tap on Devices.
    4. Press and Hold the device to remove.
    5. Tap on 'Remove Device' when prompted.

Android (All other Bluetooth devices): Note: These steps may vary depending on the Android device. Please see the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for instructions.

    1. Open Phone Settings.
    2. Tap on Bluetooth.
    3. Tap on Settings Icon next to the previously paired device(s).
May vary in appearance, but typically displays as a gear icon.)
    4. Tap on 'Unpair' (or something similar).

    • Reboot your phone
    • Clear the cache from the phone (Note: These steps may vary depending on the Android device).

    1. Open Phone Settings.
    2. Tap on Apps.
    3. Tap on Garmin Connect Mobile (Seen as 'Connect').
    4. Tap on 'Clear cache'.
    5. Reboot the phone.

    • Remove the device from Garmin Connect Mobile

    1. Open the Connect Mobile application
    2. Tap on Devices
    3. Press and Hold Device
    4. Remove Device

After you remove the device please pair the devices again and attempt to sync. Hope this helps!
  • GCM-Info_Request.....is this what you have to do every time phone (Galaxy S5) drops BT connection to watch (Fenix 3)? Because that is exactly what is happening...if watch is too far from phone for too long, BT drops and its a long tortuous effort to re-pair, including resetting watch and phone a number of times, removing watch from GCM device settings, on and off with BT on both watch and phone and just generally trying and trying until watch gives pairing code....sometimes GCM sees watch and then loses comms with watch and pairing code not generated....only after about 15 attempts will the code appear and watch pairs...this all after updating to 2.11.2 of GCM....with the older version there were no such problems.
    What gives?
  • Any response from anyone connected to Garmin would be greatly appreciated!

What you are experiencing is not a normal occurance. I do apologize that you are having so much trouble between the two devices. There have been cases where a bad .FIT file was causing connection issues and while it is rare, you may have to remove the current .FIT files on your device. You can back up your files to Garmin Connect before you do this, so that you do not lose any of your data. To do this, sync your device using Garmin Express(Garmin.com/Express).

To remove the corrupted files from a mass storage device:
    Connect device to computer
Select Computer or My Computer from the Start menu
Locate the Garmin mass storage device
    Open the drive
    Open the Garmin folder
Once inside the Garmin folder there are 4 different folders that could contain the corrupted data file. Open the Activities, Courses, Sports, and Workouts folders to view the .FIT files
Start with the Activities folder and delete or copy the files to a different location NOTE* Saved data on the device cannot be recovered once deleted*

After removing the files, unplug your device, and repair your device with a new connection(e.g. follow the first steps of removing the device from your account and phone). Your device should pair on it’s first attempt. Hopefully this solves the issue. The reason for going through these steps because, you said these issues started after the 2.11 update. The 2.11 update had no change made to the Bluetooth, as it was mainly a UI change. Once again, hope this this! Thank you for your patience in the matter!

    Will Garmin solve it soon?

I'm pretty sure it is issue on side of Fenix 3.
Every time I go beyond BT range connection is broken and reconnection fails.
It is not rare situation. Only help is new pairing. Really annoying. I would expact smooth behaviour for such expensive device.
    My configuration:
    Fenix 3, firmware 3.20
    Samsung Galaxy S3/Android 4.3
  • @ Capediver,

I have 5 different pairs on my phone.
Never had to remove any of them.

I stayed with Connect v2.9.1 because it works.

When I do not need to use my Bluetooth I turn it off.

When I am ready to upload data I turn it back on.
It finds my Vivofit every time.
If I were you I would roll back to Connect v2.9.1.

You can search for it on many websites.

If you need help PM me.

This seems to be the hot word lately "corrupted" files that is being used to explain problems......
  • @Ron....hmmm, something's definitely not right..I too have many BT devices paired to my phone, Android Samsung S5 with latest OS, and they all work perfectly.GCM 2.11.2 is OK when its all finally connected, UI may be different to last version but that's what progress is I suppose but it STILL refuses to re-connect after losing BT for too long...the app sees the watch but looses connectivity during the pairing process.....only repeated re-boot of phone and watch finally gets passkey generated by watch...I have v2.9.1 and downgraded.....and LO and BEHOLD, the app saw and paired with device first time, like IMMEDIATELY...I'll let it run a few days to see if it looses pairing overnight when phone is away from watch.....
  • Well, I have had phone separated from watch overnight.....with v2.11.2, I would have to re-pair the watch after a few reboots of both....with v2.9.1, it connected immediately, in fact even before I got near to the watch ...(I have the phone and watch in the same places as when I was running v2.11.2, that is separated inside my home) not very scientific but I was well pleased! So I'll run it a few more times but I think I'll stick with v2.9.1 for now and not upgrade GCM....
Edit: So I had the watch and phone separated with BT off for two days, switched BT on and the watch connected and synced immediately via BT so I'm sticking with v2.9.1...tx but no thanks Garmin....
